'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' Casts Eve Ridley As Ruthye Marye Knoll
Revenge is a dish best served by young alien girls
Casting has continued for the second film in DC Studios’s new DC Universe, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It got its star in Milly Alcock in January, director Craig Gillespie in April, and its villain Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hill in September. Now, we have the character of Ruthye Marye Knoll, and she’ll be played by Eve Ridley.
Knoll comes from the 2022 comic the film is adapting, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. She is a noble and honorable alien warrior whose father is killed by Krem in cold blood. Seeking revenge, she travels across the galaxy with Supergirl to hunt him down. Whether the film still has the full name is unclear because Deadline, who broke the story, repeatedly referred to the film by a Supergirl shorthand and only mentioned the full title in reference to the source comic. Nothing has been confirmed, but the same publication was caught still referring to Superman as Superman: Legacy on Monday, nearly eight months after the change.
That this version of Supergirl would be up to tagging along for such a revenge kill may have to do with the story and personality differences that this story in either form, with the screenplay written by Ana Nogueira, presents. When studio co-CEO James Gunn announced the film as part of the initial slate reveal, he said audiences would audiences to “see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
Ridley only has a handful of credits to her name, with her most notable being Follower on the Netflix series 3 Body Problem. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
