'Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow' Casts Matthias Schoenaerts As Villain Krem
The Girl of Steel’s foe has been chosen for the 2026 DC Universe film
The new DC Universe’s second film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has cast its villain, and it seems Matthias Schoenaerts is the Krem of that crop.
The character of Krem comes directly from the source material, the 2022 Tom King comic series that the film written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie also gets its name from, which told of a young alien girl who seeks Supergirl’s help in exacting revenge for the killing of her family. Krem of the Yellow Hills is at the very least her father’s murderer. He then makes it personal for Supergirl when he injures Krypto the Superdog.
Schoenaerts is a Belgian actor who recently starred in HBO’s prestige miniseries The Regime with Kate Winslet and Martha Plimpton, as well as Sky’s western Django. His film credits include the Marion Cotillard drama Rust and Bone, the Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller Red Sparrow and the Netflix action thriller The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron, as well as Amsterdam, The Danish Girl, and A Bigger Splash.
He is the first casting after the film’s lead, House of the Dragon alum Milly Alcock as Supergirl herself. It is a version of Supergirl that has been previously described by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn as one that would allow audiences to “see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.” It has been reinforced that Supergirl will make an appearance elsewhere before she headlines her movie. The belief is that said appearance will happen in Superman, which will be released on July 11, 2025, but the way things are rolling right now, the longshots are Peacemaker season 2 and Lanterns. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is currently set for a January shoot in the United Kingdom for a June 26, 2026 release.
