BIG: Longtime Producer Victoria Alonso Has Exited Marvel Studios
While she joined the studio after 'Iron Man' was announced, she was there for every film
Victoria Alonso, a longtime Marvel Studios executive whose time nearly encompasses the studio’s entire history, departed the studio on Friday, according to sources for The Hollywood Reporter.
Alonso joined the company in 2006 as chief of visual effects and post-production, and in her over 15 years saw the studio grow from its tiny operation above a Beverly Hills Mercedes-Benz and through its 2009 acquisition by Disney to becoming film’s highest grossing franchise in industry history. After serving as co-producer for all of Phase One’s solo films, Alonso was promoted to executive producer on The Avengers and served in the role ever since, including into the studio’s foray into television series made for Disney+, starting with WandaVision in 2021. By the time she left, her title was President, Physical and Postproduction, VFX and Animation Production. Alonso was recently a producer on the Oscar nominee for Outstanding International Feature Film Argentina, 1985.
Alonso, who is gay, fought hard for onscreen representation within Marvel’s output. At a 2021 Women In Animation panel at the Annecy Animation Film Festival, Alonso remarked inclusion, diversity and gender parity “all go hand-in-hand with showing the world as it is.” She also stated “As long as I am at Marvel Studios, I will fight for representation.” during the “Don’t Say Gay” dispute. Whatever the circumstances of her departure, one must hope there’s someone there to carry that light.
