Aardman Announces Another Shaun the Sheep Movie ‘The Beast of Mossy Bottom’
Your bleating heart won’t want to miss this
We’re getting Clayface and the clay place in 2026. There will be sheer joy among bleating-heart claymation fans as Aardman, fresh off the release of Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, and Sky Cinema announce a third film for Shaun the Sheep, who will be starring in Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, the third title format for the franchise. It is set for release next year.
The Beast of Mossy Bottom finds the residents of Mossy Bottom Farm looking forward to Halloween until the clumsy Farmer completely messes up the Flock’s beloved pumpkin patch. Shaun’s mad scientist turn of desperation to fix the problem causes things rapidly spiral out of control. The Farmer is missing and a wild beast is roaming the woods of Mossingham, so let the chaos begin. The film is directed by Steve Cox and Matthew Walker, written by Mark Burton and Giles Pilbrow. It is produced by Richard Beek with Nick Park, Peter Lord, Carla Shelley and Sarah Cox as studio executive producers.
Aardman Animation Announces Pokémon Collaboration For 2027
Remember how “far out!” used to mean awesome? Here’s something actually far out that promises to be awesome. The Pokémon Company is teaming up with stop-motion animation studio Aardman for what’s being billed as a “special project” to be released in 2027.
Sky is the exclusive United Kingdom distributor, releasing in theaters and on Sky Cinema, while StudioCanal is the global international partner. Now usually I’d try to steer away from international distribution quirks for what I believe to be my largely-American audience, but it’s an unignorable part of the statement given by Sky Cinema Executive Producer & Head of Originals Andrew Orr where he says “Shaun is a household name, so it’s huge news for us to be welcoming him and the flock to our 2026 Sky Original film slate. It’s an honor to work with Aardman at such an exciting time for the studio, with a film that we know fans of all ages will love. Expect laughs, spookiness and some brilliantly entertaining new characters.”
Sarah Cox, the Chief Creative Director at Aardman, remarked, “Shaun the Sheep is an iconic character, beloved by viewers of all ages around the world. In our new animated movie, we bring family-friendly thrills to this light-hearted, spooky Halloween adventure. Expect smashed pumpkins, wayward science and a wild hairy beast on the loose in Mossy Bottom — all delivered with the Flock’s trademark joyous comedy.”
The Shaun the Sheep series is headed into a seventh season series, while both previous film installments have been Academy Award-nominated for Best Animated Feature. The announcement assures that on top of the 2027 Pokémon project, the clay supply scare really was just a scare. “We are so delighted to be in development and pre-production on Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom launching worldwide sales at Cannes. We have taken such pride in establishing Shaun the Sheep and the flock as movie stars and in this — our third feature film in the franchise — we have a tantalizing seasonal hook in Halloween with thrills, spills, surprises, a touch of science and characters old and new,” said Anna March, the CEO of StudioCanal and Deputy CEO & CCO of Canal+, and Ron Halpern, Executive Vice President of Global Production at StudioCanal. “We cannot wait to reveal more of this highly anticipated family treat in the coming months. It’s a genuine pleasure to be back in partnership with Aardman for Shaun’s very welcome return and in Sky we have a U.K. partner who share our passion and ambition to bring Shaun the Sheep (and friends) to the biggest possible audience with his timeless appeal and in his home territory.”
Hossein Amini To Do Rewrites On DC Studios’s 'Clayface'
