'Bat-Fam' Trailer Punctuates A Little Batman Party At New York Comic Con
They’ll push your buttons, and maybe drive the Batmobile, the family, the family Batman’s family
It’s New York Comic Con weekend, and with Saturday being the main day of any convention there’s always a lot going on. And that includes Prime Video’s panel for their upcoming DC animated series and Merry Little Batman follow-up Bat-Fam, which featured executive producer and showrunner Mike Roth joined by cast members Yonas Kibreab, the voice of Damian Wayne aka Little Batman, Bobby Moynihan, the voice of Man-Bat, London Hughes, the voice of Alicia Pennyworth. The streamer clarified the previously-announced November premiere date to be November 10 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide and also stream on Amazon’s kid-centric digital subscription service Amazon Kids+. While attendees got to see the full first episode, the series trailer was released to the public.
Bat-Fam follows Batman, voiced by Luke Wilson, who is the same overachieving perfectionist but also a doting, bearded dad, and Damian, the hyper-intelligent, hyperactive grade-schooler who’s still fresh in taking up the “Little Batman” alter ego. He cannonballs into anything he deems a righteous cause, and the only thing that excites him more than following in his dad’s footsteps is the true sense of family and his dad’s big hugs. While figuring out family life may have softened him, his brooding is still there, bringing chills down the spines of Gotham City’s worst criminals. There’s also the family cat Selina, with her obvious namesake. The close-knit family of misfits traverse “the fun and frustrations of ordinary life while protecting the streets of Gotham City”. It promises nonstop action, big heart, hilarious chaos, laughter, heroics, and just a dash of drama. Saving Gotham City is serious business, sure, but family comes first.
Alfred, voiced once again by James Cromwell, serves as a fatherly guide not just for Bruce and Damian, but four new housemates, though he quite likes having the responsibility and remains determined to keep Wayne Manor in order while defending its honor, because it is just as much his home in all his years of butlering. Especially now that his free-spirited grandniece, Alicia, one of Bruce’s only friends from childhood because of her frequent visits, is around a bit more. Her unique blend of sincerity, compassion, and infectious positivity has her founding E*Vil, where she can be a social worker rehabilitating former supervillains. Claire, voiced by Haley Tju, used to be Volcana, one of Batman’s rogues, but is reformed on two levels: the Lazarus Pit reverted her age to 12-years-old, so Bruce takes her in as his newest ward. She’s sarcastic and cynical, but being cut off from her villainy she’s refocused and grown fond of her new family situation, becoming Damian’s sort-of big sister.
Pap Pap Ra’s al Ghul, voiced by Michael Benyaer is a bit of a funky phantom these days, thanks to his own magical mishap essentially turned him into a ghost. It therefore leaves him the former criminal mastermind of the deadly League of Shadows, and much more domesticated. Now with all bite and no teeth, he haunts Wayne Manor with his petty desire to be in charge while fawning over his beloved grandson, Damian. Moynihan’s iteration of Man-Bat is the eccentric and disheveled former scientist turned mutant-bat-creature who would be part of Batman’s rogues gallery. While usually playing video games or raiding the fridge for leftovers, he’s quick to offer quirky unsolicited advice as if it was ancient Greek philosophical nuggets.
The trailer does confirm that Joker is back, while filling out the rogues gallery further with Killer Frost, Killer Croc, Clayface, Mad Hatter, who is with an assistant who may or may not be the show’s creation, and Livewire. Previously announced guest stars include Reid Scott, Kevin Michael Richardson, Diedrich Bader, and Natasha Leggero, with no confirmation of a David Hornsby reprisal for Joker, nor role assignments even though the trailer provided possibilities.
