'Bedrock' Extinct: Elizabeth Banks's 'Flintstones' Series No Longer In Development At Fox
Uh oh, the series is in rubble!
The future of new Flintstones series on television is shaky once again, as Bedrock is no longer in development at Fox. However the network is open to redeveloping the project at a later date.
It had been over a year since the pilot presentation was ordered in May 2023. Executive produced by Elizabeth Banks, she would star as Pebbles, who here would return to being about the age she was before The Flintstones as a franchise stopped being a constant presence in the early ‘90s. Everyone agrees the dropoff starts after A Flintstone Family Christmas outside of the live action movies, right? Anyway, what’s meant is she is a 20-something embarking on her career as her father Fred nears retirement from his. The Stone Age is giving way to the Bronze Age, and the residents of Bedrock are struggling to adjust, finding it harder “than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club”. Banks’ production company Brownstone Productions had no comment. Last year, Banks teased Bedrock would “have adult themes, like all the greats — just like The Simpsons or South Park — but ‘family-ish friendly.'”
Bedrock would also star Barry, King of the Hill, and NewsRadio’s Stephen Root as Fred, Amy Sedaris, most recently heard in No Time to Spy: A Loud House Movie, as Wilma; Nicole Byer as Betty Rubble; Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Joe Lo Truglio as Barney Rubble; and The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto, most recently seen in The Acolyte, as their son Bamm-Bamm.
While the exact status of Fox’s animation push is unknown, as it currently stands, last season saw Krapopolis and Grimsburg finally join up with The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and The Great North in the fall and winter respectively. Unfortunately this postseason also saw the cancellation of Housebroken after two seasons and 30 episodes. This upcoming fall will see Universal Basic Guys join the lineup, hopefully I’ll be elaborating on that soon. As for Bedrock, Fox passing on the series which had also found Warner Bros. Animation and Fox Entertainment as its producers becomes the latest roadblock in what is so far a five year journey, first being reported in 2019 and its first traction in 2021.
