'Ben 10's Original Continuity Ended 10 Years Ago Today
It is November 14, 2024. A nearly 9-year journey through 4 action packed series ended, and boy does it love its time loops.
It is November 14, 2024. Ten years ago, in the early hours of the morning on Cartoon Network, Ben 10: Omniverse aired its series finale “A New Dawn”. Directed by Dan Riba and written by Matt Youngberg, it not only ended the series, but the original continuity that it and the three series before it comprised before the franchise was rebooted for a single four-season series just known as Ben 10 that ran from 2017-2021.
“A New Dawn” saw Ben and Rook chase Maltruant through time, as he attempts to create a universe of his own using his own Anihilaarg, all the way to the beginning of time onto the starship of the Contemelia, the species that created the Annihilaarg. Using the power of Feedback, Ben absorbs the Dwarf Star-powered Anihilaarg using the power of all of his aliens to defeat Maltruant, trapping him in a time loop that forces him to relive the events of the Time War for eternity. Ben marked his victory by announcing he and his friends would go on a road trip, just like he, Gwen and Max took at the start of the original series.
About 30 episodes earlier it was revealed that a Ben variant who originally didn’t have the Omnitrix is responsible for getting the Omnitrix to Ben Prime and allowing the events of the franchise to happen. With these events in mind, we don’t have to sing a special anniversary song. We’re going back to the basics for a little fun in the spirit of the time loop: It started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it started when an alien device did what it did!
Back to the beginning in the beginning. For the superpowered kid who wants to have fun but gets the job done. The alien device did what? Thanks for indulging me in this fun little thing. As for the definitive future of Ben 10, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that it is one of five additional licensed Warner Bros. animated properties getting series from Dynamite Comics, with Captain Planet, Herculoids, Thundarr the Barbarian, and Dynomutt & Blue Falcon joining The Powerpuff Girls, ThunderCats, Space Ghost, and Jonny Quest. “This is exciting on so many levels,” noted Dynamite CEO Nick Barrucci. “First, to be recognized as doing a great job. Both with critical acclaim and sales, with the work that the creative and editorial teams (are) putting into this is rewarding.”
