Colin Farrell Cobbles Together SAG Award Win For 'The Penguin'; 'Wicked' Shut Out
The awards were held Sunday, hosted by Kristen Bell and streamed on Netflix
We are one week away from the 97th Academy Awards, but you really can’t escape awards season guild-free. Sunday night was the 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards, hosted by Kristen Bell and streamed live on Netflix. The results weren’t great for the niches around here but did have a great night for Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building in a very Hacks-friendly season. Wicked led the films with five nominations, as Shōgun did with TV, which leaves The Penguin right in the middle of the pack. Conclave won Oustanding Performance By A Cast on the film side (the Best Picture equivalent) Shōgun won all four awards it could, but what does that mean for the others?
Out of The Penguin’s three nominations, Colin Farrell did emerge victorious in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie category for playing Oz Cobb, over not only recurring foes Richard Gadd for Baby Reindeer, Kevin Kline for Disclaimer, and Andrew Scott for Ripley, but also Javier Bardem for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Jamie Lee Curtis presented the award, doing so with “And the Actor goes to… the man who gave me covid at the Golden Globes: Colin Farrell.” Once on stage, Farrell responded with, “Guilty as charged. But Brendan Gleeson fucking gave it to me! So I was just spreading the love.” Cristin Milioti could not overcome Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning this time, with the fellow defeated being Kathy Bates for The Great Lilian Hall, Cate Blanchett in Disclaimer, Jodie Foster in True Detective: Night Country, and Lily Gladstone in Under the Bridge. Thanks to the stunts category being all-encompassing, comedy, drama and miniseries, The Penguin did cross paths with Shōgun, which also left House of the Dragon, Fallout, and The Boys in its wake. Its other awards were Best Actor (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Actress (Anna Sawai) in a Drama, and Best Drama.
'Wicked' And 'The Penguin' Bring Wonderful Wins To Oz At The 82nd Golden Globes
So if you care to find me, look to the Gotham skies. The 82nd Golden Globes were held Sunday night, hosted by Nikki Glaser, airing on CBS as the first major awards show of 2025 celebrating the best in movies and television. FX and Hulu’s Shogun was the big winner of the night on the television side, winning all four categories it was nominated in: Best …
Conclave’s Best Cast in a Film win was indeed over Wicked, as well as A Complete Unknown, Anora, and Emilia Pérez. The full ensembles are nominated here. Demi Moore won Best Actress as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance over Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, as well as Pamela Anderson in The Last Showgirl, Karla Sofia Gascón in Emilia Pérez, and Mikey Madison in Anora. Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero lost Best Supporting Actor to Kieran Culkin in A Real Pain, as did Yura Borisov of Anora, Edward Norton of A Complete Unknown, and Jeremy Strong of The Apprentice. Ariana Grande’s Galinda lost to Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Pérez, as did Monica Barbaro for A Complete Unknown, Jamie Lee Curtis for The Last Showgirl, and Danielle Deadwyler for The Piano Lesson. It’s the stunt category where we also find Deadpool & Wolverine in Marvel’s sole nomination. Gladiator II and Dune: Part Two were also nominated, but all lost to The Fall Guy, which was the most sensible choice.
'Wicked' Flies To 10 Oscar Nominations
After a six day delay to wrap up voting in the midst of the Los Angeles wildfires, which have left at least 28 people dead with more than 14,000 structures destroyed and nearly 40,000 acres burned, Thursday finally saw the announcement of nominations for the 97th
