'Digman!' Returns To Post-'South Park' Site For Long-Awaited Season 2 Dig
Big summer for adult animation grows further with some life for Comedy Central
Well finally. Back in the spring of 2023, Comedy Central premiered Digman!, an animated comedy starring Andy Samberg set in a world where archaeologists are massive celebrities and the coolest people on the planet. Samberg’s Rip Digman character essentially served as an outlet for his Nicolas Cage impression, as the adventuring comes off National Treasure-inspired. It was paired with the network’s biggest series, and one of its few remaining originals, South Park, which was at the back end of its 6-episode televised 26th season. For its remaining 6 episodes, it was alone. Luckily it didn’t affect things too much, as the series was handed a season 2 renewal on the day of the first season finale. Now, with both series having skipped 2024, the network has announced season 2 will be positioned back behind South Park, premiering on July 9 at 10:30 PM Eastern and Pacific.
The trailer opens very dramatically with a Dr. No-esque villain monologuing about Rip’s life before he’s cut off with a punchline. Rip and his team are back on their bullshit, on all sorts of adventures, whether underwater, in an asylum or on drums. A montage of chaos ensues, before it pulls back to reveal the cast watching the very trailer. “This show sucks!” Swooper, voiced by Tim Robinson yells to the television screen, before Rip replies “But doesn’t it at least feel good to all be back together again?” and then promises: “It gets good! Briefly. And then really bad again for the whole rest of it.” As for who Rip is as a whole, he began the series a retired adventurer haunted by the death of his wife Bella, and so assembled a team of experts. He travels with them to dangerous parts of the world to unearth legendary artifacts and grow their reputations as fearless adventurers.
'South Park' Is Back Dealing With Diddy, Wars With Canada Again In Gafish Season 27 Trailer
It’s actually turned out to be a great week for the mainstays of adult animation. First, Rick and Morty is the crux of Adult Swim’s April Fools’ prank, which they top off with announcing its eighth season premiere date, having not aired in 2024. Then on Wednesday,
Digman! also stars Mitra Jouhari as Saltine, Dale Soules as Agatha, Guz Khan as Zane, Melissa Fumero as Bella, and Tim Meadows as Quail Eegan. Samberg and Neil Campbell created the series produced by CBS Studios alongside Ali Bell and The Lonely Island’s Party Over Here banner. Titmouse will executive produce, with their own Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina.
The first rumblings of Digman! finally returning came from ubiquitous voice actor Eric Bauza, who posted to Instagram a photo from a season 2 party with Samberg, Tom Kenny, and David Kaye. What are their roles? Maybe we’ll get a separate guest star announcement but that seems unlikely, just gotta watch starting July 9.
