Disney+ Launches 'The Simpsons' Streams Channel
Every available episode of all 35 seasons will run on the channel
You’ll never stop streaming The Simpsons now. At about 12:15 PM Eastern on Tuesday, Disney+ launched a live channel for the long-running FOX series as it readies for the resumption of its 36th season on Sunday, March 30. It features all 767 available episodes from the 35 complete seasons that are on the platform.
Only the regular episodes have been boasted for the stream thus far, but that still amounts to over 300 hours, over 12 and a half days on a single loop. Even if they did have the movie (which is available on the streamer) in the lineup, it would still take going through seventeen seasons to get there to find out with no advance notice. The shorts? The Longest Daycare was released after season 23. It’s fine whether they’re in the lineup or not. Even so, it doesn’t seem to be continual gos for every episode, instead reportedly “refreshed monthly”, which likely means rotating clusters.
Animation Domination Overhaul With 'Family Guy' Return Gets Premiere Date
During the Fox Winter Preview special at the end of last year, it was revealed that when Animation Domination returns in February, it would be looking quite different, most notably with Family Guy not only returning to Sundays after a six-week stay on Wednesdays in the back half of last season, but in the 8 PM slot
“From day one, the fans have asked for a Stream of The Simpsons, and we’re happy to oblige,” said Gabe Lewis, the senior vice president of Programming & Content Curation at Disney+. “Streams on Disney+ have been a fantastic go-to experience for subscribers looking to sit back and relax with their favorite shows and movies, and we look forward to evolving the user experience and expanding the offering with more Streams, to more subscribers, later this year.” The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman added, “The Simpsons Stream will deliver a Simpsons marathon all day, every day — no matter when you tune in, this ultimate Simpsons binge will be there.”
Live channels are a feature across many free streamers like Freevee (since inherited by Prime Video), Tubi, Plex, and even Paramount+, and most of all the main course of Pluto TV. Disney+ first showed interest in adding live channels last April, and were launched in September. All subscribers got the initial pair, consisting of ABC News, featuring live newscasts, breaking news, live events and in-depth special reports; and Disney+ Playtime, essentially the streaming version of Disney Jr. Premium subscribers also have access to three other Streams: Hits & Heroes, which features Marvel and Star Wars, Throwbacks, a destination for nostalgic pop culture content; and Real Life, the nonfiction section featuring traditional documentaries, biopics and true stories. A Halloween-themed channel Hallowstream was available for the season.
