Key New 'Doctor Who' Photos Of Jinkx Monsoon, Ncuti Gatwa And Millie Gibson
Filming is still ongoing for Series 14, set to premiere on the BBC and Disney+ next year
Weeks after being cast in a significant role for series 14 of British stalwart sci-fi series Doctor Who, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon has been fitted, is filming, and ready to show off their outfit.
On Wednesday, the BBC posted a video of them doing exactly that, wearing a very piano-themed ensemble that will be their onscreen. Their character is still unknown, but is a villain that is sure to run through the usual suspicions of The Master (again) and The Rani. When their casting was announced, they were welcomed by returning showrunner Russell T. Davies with “In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!”
Whoever Monsoon plays, they’ll be opposite Fifteenth Doctor Ncuti Gatwa and his companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, who had pics of them in ‘60s garb released on Thursday, probably returning the Doctor to the decade the series began in the series following the 60th anniversary specials Fifteen will emerge from and the Christmas special she’ll debut in on his first adventure. Series 14 is the first full series with Davies back as showrunner, having returned starting with the specials after having overseen the show’s initial revival years featuring the Ninth and Tenth Doctors.
The show also has a new production company, Bad Wolf, and inspired by Star Trek’s new golden age, is ramping back up on spinoffs. Jemma Redgrave will be returning as Kate Stewart and knows a bit about that, more on that soon. Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson and Michelle Greenidge are also already confirmed to be cast. It is with the anniversary specials, featuring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor that Doctor Who moves to Disney+ outside its UK home, where it will remain on the BBC.
