Dulcé Sloan Has Left 'The Daily Show' After 7 Years
The 'The Great North' star had joined the Comedy Central series in 2017
It’s a bittersweet time at Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. The news team is down one member as it began 2025 without correspondent and contributor Dulcé Sloan. The comedian has departed the political satire series after seven years.
It’s certainly less tense than the last one, Roy Wood Jr.’s departure in October 2023, in fact it’s described as completely amicable. That’s because Sloan’s contract expired at the end of last year and she’s already moved from New York to Los Angeles to foster her acting and stand-up careers. She has a new comedy special in the works and is preparing to launch a tour that features a week-long stint in March at The Soho Theatre in London. Living in LA will likely make for easier commutes to in-person recordings on Fox’s animated series The Great North, where she’s been the voice of Wolf’s confident and adventurous wife Honeybee Shaw since it premiered. It just premiered its fifth season on December 22 after airing its last quarter of the fourth in September. When it resumes in February, it will continue in the 9 PM slot it first gained last season.
“There is work that I’ve done over the past seven years with The Daily Show that I couldn’t be prouder of,” said Sloan in a statement. “I collaborated with some incredibly talented people who I look forward to continuing to work with. I know our paths will continue to cross. I am now free to pursue my dream job of being a live action Klingon on Star Trek.” Remember Dulcé, Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds await. Probably more in the future. A spokesperson for The Daily Show called Sloan “an exceptional comedic force,” adding, “we are thankful for her hilarious seven year run on The Daily Show. We wish her the best and look forward to watching her next chapter.”
Starting at The Daily Show in September 2017, capping her run with an Emmy win for Outstanding Talk Series in 2024 shared with Jon Stewart and the news team. The show had also won in 2023, but it was credited to Trevor Noah’s final year before his departure at the end of 2022. The cycle of guest hosts that began the year had landed at her turn in May 2023 when after one episode the Writers’ Guild of America strike began. She wouldn’t get back behind the desk until November 20, and didn’t get her week until April 16-18. She also earned a 2024 GLAAD Award Nomination for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode for her interview with Sasha Colby on what it means to be a happy trans person. In 2023, she won The Silver Anthem Award and a Webby Award for Best Comedy Podcast for Hold Up, which she hosts with fellow comic and Daily Show correspondent Josh Johnson. She won an NAACP Image Award in both 2022 and 2023 with a total of five nominations. She has also written a book, Hello Friends: Stories of Dating, Destiny, and Day Jobs, published by Penguin Random House last February.
