It’s An Invasion In 'What If…?' Season 3 Clip
Open your eyes, face the unknown. Time is of the essence. One last watch begins December 22.
Another season of Marvel Animation’s What If…? Is about to premiere, which means another premiere event for the series was apparently bound to happen. And it did! The creatives gathered in Santa Monica, California on Wednesday, December 11 to celebrate the launch of the third and final season with episode screenings. While there was no sizzle reel like the event for season 2, probably because Disney+ already released one at the end of October, it did clarify the premiere date for Marvel Zombies after the window was given in the reel. That’s October 3, though the release format is unclear. After all, Dream Productions of equal length dropped at once. What’s different this time is the public did get a clip released to them.
The clip is called “It’s An Invasion”, and it comes from the episode in which Sam Wilson as Captain America leads a team of mecha pilots, including Monica Rambeau, Moon Knight, Alexei and Melina, in a battle against Gamma Monsters. As the apex and horde march on, the apex communicates with them before damaging Sam and Monica’s mechs. As far as we know about the episode, we will see Anthony Mackie as Sam, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostakoff, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight.
The episode screening took place at the AMC Santa Monica 7, and was followed by a festive post-screening reception at Ice at Santa Monica. Both parts were attended both by fans and industry guests, including Seth Green, who voices Howard the Duck, directors Bryan Andrews and Stephan Franck, and executive producers Brad Winderbaum and Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt.
Subsequently, Marvel Studios released two teasers to their socials, with the taglines “Open your eyes, face the unknown” and “Time is of the essence”. There are glimpses of new footage but too brief for any added context. It still means getting to see the likes of Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner Hulk, Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo (actually getting to hear a line!), Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster, Dominique Thorne as Ironheart, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Devery Jacobs as Kahhori, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, James D’Arcy as human Jarvis, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent John Walker, Alison Sealy-Smith as Goddess Storm, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Meng’er Zhang as Xu Xialing, Taika Waititi as Korg, Rachel House as Topaz, Kat Dennings as Darcy, Ross Marquand Red Skull, Infinity Ultron, Professor X, Apocalypse, and Doctor Doom, Gene Farber as Vasily Karpov, the Hydra agent from Captain America: Civil War, Hamish Parkinson as Beerbot 5000, Tom Vaughn Lawlor as Ebony Maw, David Kaye as Celestial Arishem the Judge, America Ferrera as Ranger Morales in the Bucky/Alexei teamup story, Natasha Lyonne as Byrdie, and Jason Isaacs, D. C. Douglas, and Darin De Paul as the confronting Watchers named the Eminence, the Incarnate, and the Executioner, respectively.
What If…?’s final season of 8 episodes are written by Matthew Chauncey, who co-executive produces, Ryan Little, and A.C. Bradley. The series’s other executive producers are Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito, with co-executive producer Chauncey, and producers Danielle Costa, Carrie Wassenaar, and Alex Scharf. The season premieres on December 22, and will roll out daily until December 29.
