It’s 30 seconds to Eternia, which is now Skeletorbin’ time. Morbius star and cult leader Jared Leto has officially been cast as nemesis Skeletor in Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios’s live action Masters of the Universe film against Nicholas Galitzine’s Prince Adam/He-Man. In addition, Sam C. Wilson, Hafthor Bjornsson, and Kojo Attah have been cast as three of Skeletor’s henchmen, Trap Jaw, Goat Man and Tri-Klops.
Skeletor is a powerful and cunning sorcerer, who not only serves as the primary antagonist against He-Man, but is King Randor’s brother, the disappeared and disfigured Keldor, making him Prince Adam’s uncle. Sometimes it’s by dark magic, sometimes acid, sometimes both. In Masters of the Universe: Revolution, his life as Keldor is something repressed he has to remember. In the 2021 CG series, he abducts Prince Adam. Originated by Alan Oppenheimer, Skeletor was voiced by Mark Hamill, but his Keldor self was voiced by William Shatner. Trap Jaw is the cyborg henchman known for his cybernetic enhancements and versatile weaponry. In the 2021 reboot it’s quite a gruesome transformation. Voiced by Filmation founder Lou Scheimer in the original series, the Revelation continuation had Diedrich Bader take over the role, while the aforementioned reboot had him voiced by Roger Craig Smith. Goat Man did not appear in animation, originating in the Golden Books until Kevin Smith brought him into Masters of the Universe: Revelation and voiced him himself. with Skeletor’s forces, while Tri-Klops is resourceful and tech-savvy, an interdimensional bounty hunter and swordsman who can see in any direction, making him a master of surveillance and technology. Also originally voiced by Scheimer, the character was a surveillance drone in the CG reboot, where he was voiced by…Kevin Smith.
Leto is an Academy Award winner for his role in Dallas Buyers Club known for having broken out on the teen drama My So-Called Life before starring in Fight Club, American Psycho, and Requiem for a Dream. He would then infamously go on to be the Joker of the DCEU, mostly in 2016’s Suicide Squad. More recently he’s been in Disney’s Haunted Mansion, WeCrashed and House of Gucci, and next has Tron: Ares, which is set for release on October 10.
Wilson is largely known for his work on television, with credits on House of the Dragon, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, and Hanna. Bjornsson meanwhile is an Icelandic strongman who played Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane on Game of Thrones, and subsequently appeared in Robert Eggers’ The Northman. Attah has films like Wrath of Man and The Beekeeper to his names, as well as Netflix’s series Supacell, has Murder at the Embassy coming up and will be starring with Henry Cavill, Eiza González and Jake Gyllenhaal in Guy Ritchie’s action drama In the Grey.
The new Masters of the Universe movie, in addition to Galitzine, also stars Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Skeletor’s top underling Evil-Lyn, and Idris Elba as the kingdom’s trusted advisor Duncan, the Man-At-Arms. The plot of the movie is still under wraps as the newer details are being kept secret, but previously told of Adam coming to Earth as a child, being separated from his Power Sword, finding it after many years and being brought back to Eternia once it’s found to fend off Skeletor. Laika founder and Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight directs Masters of the Universe from a screenplay by Chris Butler, following initial drafts written by David Callaham, and brothers Aaron and Adam Nee. Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing. It is set to be released in theaters globally on June 5, 2026.
