‘Legend of Zelda’ Live-Action Movie Journeys To March 2027 Release Date
Hey! Listen! 2027 got another video game adaptation!
During Thursday’s Nintendo Direct, the new app Nintendo Today! was announced, released shortly after the presentation. It brings anyone with a Nintendo Account customized daily updates, whether it's news about the Nintendo Switch 2 system, video games and characters, or videos and comic strips, it’s fun. Or at least I’d hope so, I feel weird about making a Nintendo Account without a Switch. But the first full day of operation Friday kicked off with a bang. The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie the company is co-producing with Sony has been set for release on March 26, 2027.
A year and a half since original announcement, The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball is still attached to direct, as well as produce with Joe Hartwick Jr. under their Oddball Entertainment banner. Also coming from Avi Arad’s Arad Productions, he produces as well alongside Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. Casting and story details are still developing. The film will open up directly against Warner Bros. and Legendary’s next Godzilla x Kong film which releases that day. It also creates a duel against Sonic the Hedgehog 4 which opens the previous week. Amy Rose and Princess Zelda will be bringing their feature-length theatrical debuts just a week apart.
A Live Action 'Legend Of Zelda' Movie Heads Into Development From Nintendo And Sony
You can’t be too cool for Hyrule. Nintendo is officially developing a The Legend of Zelda live-action film, as announced by creator and game developer Shigeru Miyamoto.
Miyamoto announced the film on Twitter in a statement that after identifying himself on company account read, “I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.” Nintendo is doing majority financing. The Legend of Zelda franchise began with the initial game of the same name in 1986. It follows the elf-like warrior of the Hylian race Link, who sets out to defeat the evil Ganon to rescue the princess Zelda of Hyrule. The series’s latest entry, Echoes of Wisdom, released on September 26, sold more than 2.5 million copies by November.
