Marvel Studios’s Vision Series Rings Up Tense Return For Faran Tahir
From there Tahir was Raza, one of Tony Stark’s captors in 'Iron Man'
If you want your ring cuts deep, Marvel Studios and Disney+’s Vision series is ready to bring one. Faran Tahir is set to reprise his role as Raza from Iron Man in the series starring Paul Bettany and coming next year but still lacking a definitive title. who led the group of Ten Rings that captured and nearly killed Tony Stark at the behest of Jeff Bridges’s Obadiah Stane in the 2008 film that kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it was this captivity where Stark built the first Iron Man suit that allowed his escape.
While Raza was shown to be of leadership position in that film, later films, namely Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, showed that Wenwu, the true Mandarin (Tony Leung), was the leader of the Ten Rings. At least until his death and his daughter Xu Xialing (Meng'er Zhang) took over. It is unknown if they’re going to finally bring clarity with this appearance (I genuinely forgot the better word to describe it), however it happens considering Stane killed him in the film.
Tahir is not just an actor but a producer, writer, and director whose other credits include the 2009 Star Trek film, Elysium, and Escape Plan. Most recently, Tahir has been starring in smaller English-language films as well as films primarily produced in the Urdu and Punjabi languages. His TV credits include the Syfy series adaptation of 12 Monkeys, which was developed by Terry Matalas, who showran the latter three seasons and now runs this Vision Disney+ series once known as Vision Quest. In that series he played Mallick, who as part of the Army of the 12 Monkeys was charged with the city of Titan, where he was second-in-command to the Pallid Man. He helps stage a coup in 1959, which culminated in the killing of both the Pallid Man and Athan. He might also be familiar as the Once Upon a Time version of Captain Nemo, as in from Jules Verne’s novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, who has Liam, Killian Jones’s half-brother, as his first mate aboard the Nautilus. He appeared in three season 6 episodes. In the Supergirl pilot he was the Commander who served in Astra’s army. Tahir also appeared in The Old Man, Scandal, Prison Break, American Crime, Criminal Minds, Elementary and The Blacklist, having a recent stint on Broadway in The Kite Runner. He was awarded the Voices of Courage and Conscience Award from the Muslim Public Affairs Council in 2011.
Matalas was most recently the showrunner of the latter two seasons of Star Trek: Picard, and previously executive producer and showrunner of the MacGyver reboot’s fourth season and writer for Nightflyers, Nikita, and Terra Nova. In addition to Bettany reprising his role as Vision, the Mind Gem-powered synthezoid revived by Project Cataract during WandaVision, The Blacklist star James Spader will also be reprising his villain role of Ultron under similarly unknown circumstances. Todd Stashwick plays a (likely SWORD-hired) assassin on Vision’s trail to retrieve the technology he possesses in his composition. Filming was said to be starting in England in the early part of 2025, and now being in that early part of the year means it can get going and casting news like this can come through.
