'The Muppets Mayhem' Gets An Electric Marketing Push
EVERYBODY WATCH! Trailers and posters and premiere date oh my! Find out who's guest starring too.
Disney’s next Muppets series The Muppets Mayhem is coming very soon, and they’re making sure it’s known. The series, focused on the Muppets’ house band the Electric Mayhem, has had first-look images, a teaser trailer, posters, and a trailer, which ultimately revealed its release date, release method, and true to Muppets tradition, its plethora of guest stars.
It began with Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive first look images at what is the first Muppets series since 2020’s Muppets Now, with the Halloween special Muppets Haunted Mansion released in 2021, all on Disney+. It featured the band’s members, vocalist and keyboardist Dr. Teeth, drummer Animal, bassist and vocalist Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, vocalist and lead guitarist Janice, saxophonist Zoot, and trumpeter Lips in various situations with or without aspiring record producer Nora Singh, played by former YouTuber and talk show host Lilly Singh, or Gary "Moog" Moogland, a superfan of the band, played by Baby Daddy and Smart Guy’s Tahj Mowry, on their quest to record their first album after 45 years, and maybe go platinum.
Soon after, the first teaser was released, revealing that the series will premiere on Disney+ on May 10, and that teaser can be found below. Episodes will drop all at once, not weekly. On the same day, The Muppets Mayhem soundtrack will be available on all streaming platforms. The band's debut album, The Electric Mayhem, is set to release on vinyl two days later on May 12th. A new poster was released with the teaser.
A week later came the full trailer, and the list of guest stars with it. There was also a second poster with the characters in the tour bus. The show features in-universe interviews with several stars, like Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, Lil Nas X, and Chris Stapleton, all about how much they love the Electric Mayhem. Danny Trejo, likely as a character, rocks out to one of their shows. The trailer shows Singh meeting the band and Moog, as they arrange collaborations with Zedd and deadmau5 and delve into social media including TikTok and Twitter, so much that a single tweet summons the wrath of several angry music groups, including one led by Rachel Bloom.
As they rock and roll on, there are more flashes of cameos from Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, Kristen Schaal, Ben Schwartz, Sofia Carson, Steve Aoki, Paula Abdul, Kevin Smith and finally, after 40 years, Weird Al Yankovic is finally in an onscreen Muppets production. The other guest stars revealed are Ryan Seacrest, Morgan Freeman, Kesha, David Bizarro, Nicole Byer, Charlamagne Tha God, Billy Corgan, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Desiigner, Colton Dunn, Susanna Hoffs, James Hong, Jennifer Irwin, Karamo, Riki Lindhome, Ziggy Marley, Jack McBrayer, Arden Myrin, Nico Santos, Joe Lo Truglio, and Cedric Yarbrough.
Saara Chaudry also stars as Hannah, and Anders Holm from Workaholics is a recurring guest star as JJ. As for the Electric Mayhem performers, there’s Bill Barretta as Dr. Teeth, Dave Goelz as Zoot, Eric Jacobson as Animal, Peter Linz as Lips, David Rudman as Janice, and Matt Vogel as Floyd Pepper. Starring Jim Henson’s Muppets, The Muppets Mayhem was developed and written by executive producer Barretta, who also puppeteers Pepe the King Prawn, Rowlf the Dog, and Swedish Chef, and who did so with The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, and co-executive producer Jeff Yorkes. Barretta has been producing several Muppet productions over the last 20 years. Michael Bostick, Kris Eber, The Muppets Studio’s David Lightbody and Leigh Slaughter also serve as executive producers. The series premieres May 10 on Disney+.
