New Trailers For Pixar's 'Elemental' and DreamWorks's 'Trolls Band Together' Have Been Released
Both films also revealed their broader voice casts
Tuesday turned out to be a great day for animated family films, as Disney released a trailer for Pixar’s Elemental, and DreamWorks unveiled its trailer for the latest Trolls sequel, Trolls Band Together. The full breadth of their voice casts were also revealed.
In the Elemental trailer, Ember (voiced by Leah Lewis), a "fire woman with a great sense of humor who loves her family but can be hot-headed at times", introduces the land, air, water and fire communities of Element City. She helps run her family’s shop in Fire Town, having never left it. Her family insists different elements must not mingle, but that changes when the observant and empathetic Wade (voiced by Mamoudou Athie) bursts through her pipes. Her family has fun giving Wade hot foods, as they notice her changing ways.
The rest of the cast consists of Wendi McLendon-Covey as Gale, an air element with a big personality, Catherine O’Hara, Inside Out writer Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Mason Wertheimer as Clod, an earth kid, and even Joe Pera, of Joe Pera Talks with You. The film is set for theatrical release on June 16, and will include the Up short Carl’s Date, which was originally intended for a Disney+ release in February.
Meanwhile, Trolls Band Together sees Poppy (voiced by Anna Kendrick) and Branch (voiced by Justin Timberlake) now officially dating in time for Bridget and Gristle’s wedding. One of Branch’s brothers arrives to crash it. It turns out that Branch and his brothers Floyd (Troye Sivan), John Dory (Eric André), Spruce (Daveed Diggs) and Clay (Kid Cudi) were in Poppy’s favorite boy band, BroZone, which disbanded professionally and personally when Branch was a baby. A character voiced by Justin Timberlake is in a boy band? Well of course! He was consulted on the idea before it was implemented. Now Branch is officially in the ranks of Chip Skylark and Sev’ral Timez. Now Floyd’s been kidnapped by pop stars Velvet and Veneer, with the intent of exploiting his musical talents, and so he must be rescued.
Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt of Icona Pop, Anderson .Paak, Ron Funches, Kunal Nayyar and Kenan Thompson all return to their roles from previous films. Camila Cabello and RuPaul, Zosia Mamet voice new characters, while Amy Schumer and Andrew Rannells voice Velvet and Veneer. The film plays on the nostalgia of boybands, satirizing it while sticking to the main theme of the series: the importance of family. Trolls Band Together is set for release in theaters on November 16.
