Nickelodeon Orders 'Avatar: Seven Havens', First Series From Avatar Studios
Avatar is officially BACK and we are so ready
It’s a very happy anniversary for Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise. On the eve of its 20th anniversary, the network has announced that the franchise’s third full-length animated series, Avatar: Seven Havens, has not only been greenlit but is currently in production.
The current order is for 26 episodes across two seasons, which will continue the “Book” nomenclature of its predecessors, with an average length matching that of the preceding series, 2012-2014’s 52-episode The Legend of Korra. Fans are finally getting their Earthbender Avatar series, as they are next in the cycle. The synopsis describes that the world has been “shattered by a devastating cataclysm” and that “a young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar, after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.” Premiere date and casting will be announced at a later date.
'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Animated Film Announces Cast, Includes Unretired Dionne Quan
Paramount had its turn to present at CinemaCon Thursday afternoon, showing off teasers and first footage for Transformers One, Gladiator II, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, among others. But of the news that came directly from it, among the biggest has to be the announcement of the cast of the animated
Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are the co-creators and executive producers on the new series Ethan Spaulding is executive producer and Sehaj Sethi is co-executive producer. The series is the first to be formally announced from Avatar Studios, formed by Konietzko and DiMartino after departing Netflix’s live-action adaptation, which ultimately premiered last February and has had its full story greenlit for a three-season run. The first project was a feature film that is thankfully still untitled (better than the alternative bland Aang: The Last Airbender title being circulated), which is currently set for release on January 30, 2026 and features the original Team Avatar as young adults. It stars K-Pop star Eric Nam as Aang, Jessica Matten as Katara, Roman Zaragoza as Sokka, Dionne Quan as Toph, and Dave Bautista as the villain.
“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” said Ramsey Naito, who as President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation made the announcement. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”
“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” said DiMartino & Konietzko. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”
It has also been announced that the Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast has been renewed for a 30-episode fourth season that will at the very least begin hosts Janet Varney (Korra) and Dante Basco (Zuko)’s Korra coverage, and a 10-episode Avatar: Chibi Minis webseries based on classic scenes from the series and comics will also be on YouTube. The upcoming Avatar Legends: Battlegrounds Roblox game is set to become a 7-episode short-form series using the game’s engine, including reenactments of action scenes from the original series.
