'Pokémon Legends Z-A' Gets October Release Date On Nintendo Switch, Switch 2
This holiday season, you’ll be playing the next Pokémon title for a month already
You remember the Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2? I woke up in the middle of it and it became very overwhelming to cover. Whoops. At the very least during it, a Switch 2 version of the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A, as well as free performance-enhancing and feature-adding Switch 2-related upgrades for Scarlet and Violet. Tuesday morning, 15 months after Legends Z-A was announced with a “late 2025” window, we finally got a specific release date. Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games have been slated for release on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Preorders will begin Thursday, June 5, the day the Switch 2 releases, on Nintendo eShop.
The October release date is significant because it evokes the release date of Pokémon X and Y, the sixth generation-launching games that introduced Kalos, the first worldwide release for Pokémon games on October 12, 2013. The last games of the fifth generation, Black 2 and White 2, also had October releases. After X and Y, it was November that became the time for game releases. It started with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in 2014, and would be the same for most major game releases including generations launchers Sun and Moon in 2016, Sword and Shield in 2019, and Scarlet and Violet in 2022. Follow-up Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and remakes Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl took the same release weekend in 2017, 2018 and 2021 respectively. The first Legends game, Legends: Arceus, had a January 2022 release.
