'Power Rangers' To Start Streaming On Tubi In December
Shift into Tubi! The franchise’s streaming footprint is growing
Shift into Tubi! Ever since nearly 700 episodes of Power Rangers left Netflix (for good, it seems) in February 2021, accessibility hasn’t really been an issue, but it’s always good to have options. Starting in December, the long-running but relatively recently-ended series will start joining its Super Sentai counterparts on Tubi.
According to WhenToStream, the journey begins with Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and the fifth season, Power Rangers Turbo. It is assumed that all three seasons of Mighty Morphin’ are included as there’s nothing to indicate a narrower selection of seasons. But it’s those 145 episodes, not 155 as those 10 others will inevitably be listed as Mighty Morphin’ Alien Rangers as they are everywhere else. Tubi has long been a streaming home for Shout! Factory (now Shout! Studios) releases of Super Sentai series, and what’s currently there are Chōjin Sentai Jetman, Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, Gosei Sentai Dairanger, Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, Chouriki Sentai Ohranger, Gekisou Sentai Carranger, Denji Sentai Megaranger, Seijuu Sentai Gingaman, Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive, Mirai Sentai Timeranger, Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger, and Ninpu Sentai Hurricanger. That’s all of the first eleven series that were adapted for Power Rangers and the one immediately prior. Shout! has done physical releases for Bakuryū Sentai Abaranger and Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, the bases for Dino Thunder and SPD, but if I recall correctly streaming rights weren’t secured.
Soon after leaving Netflix, about a couple of weeks in fact, Hasbro began putting Power Rangers on YouTube. Dino Thunder (season 12), Dino Charge and the Mighty Morphin reversion were first. The main Mighty Morphin began making its way on August 28, 2021, for the franchise’s anniversary. At this point, episodes were uploaded one at a time. After 5 episodes of Dino Thunder, Jungle Fury (season 16) started up with it. A few weeks later they started Wild Force (season 10). By September 2021, Dino Thunder, Jungle Fury and Wild Force were done. August 5, 2022 saw Ninja Storm completed, meaning the first 534 episodes were available to watch completely. By December 16, the complete SPD, Mystic Force, and Operation Overdrive seasons were uploaded, filling the gap between Dino Thunder and Jungle Fury. RPM’s uploads took from December 2022 to January 2023, Samurai from March to May, and Megaforce from June to August, essentially completing the mission. However, an availability hiccup was hit in January 2024 when the first season of Beast Morphers, seasons with no DVD or Blu-ray release, was removed from Netflix and has not resurfaced streaming-wise.
There is one streaming platform where the two franchises do co-exist already, and that began in May 2022, when Power Rangers joined the Forever Kids channel on Pluto TV, and everything from Mighty Morphin’ to RPM became available on demand. Now, Forever Kids is entirely Power Rangers but hasn’t officially become branded by the show. Not like the Power Rangers-branded Prime Video, Plex, and Roku FAST channels that have existed at least since June 2023, which use the same pool. Speaking of single-IP Pluto channels that have expanded their streaming footprint, Yu-Gi-Oh! now has an always-on Twitch channel that plays the original series and GX to their dub completion, five and three seasons respectively, having initially launched with three seasons and one.
It is also worth noting that, on the second anniversary of the death of Jason David Frank, who played multi-suited Ranger Tommy Oliver for much of the first five seasons with later appearances, the third season of his My Morphin Life docuseries is streaming on Tubi as well.
