The Doctor Returns In First Look At 'Star Trek Prodigy' Season 2
The series may not have found a new home yet, but this is still more than we've seen of 'Batgirl'...
He’s a Doctor, not a tax writeoff. This weekend was STLV: The 57-Year Mission, this year’s branding for the biggest annual Star Trek convention, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. A lot of alums are in attendance, including Star Trek: Picard’s Raffi Musiker, Michelle Hurd, SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles chapter Vice President, following all protocols to make such appearances during the strike okay.
Star Trek: Prodigy showrunners/co-creators Dan and Kevin Hageman and producer Aaron J. Waltke participated in a Q&A session with fans and shared a 4-minute first-look clip at the show’s second season. The Protostar crew reunites fully uniformed and ready for their first assignment. Dal misses Gwyn, who left at the end of the first season. Their assignment? the Voyager-A, and they’re greeted by The Doctor, voiced by Robert Picardo reprising his role from Voyager. He last played the character for Star Trek Online, and the role was cited when he guest starred on Schooled, which takes place in 1990-something, when trying to get funding for school musical. Admiral Janeway asked the self-proclaimed hero of the Delta Quadrant to escort Dal, Jankom Pog, Murf, Zero, and Rok-Tahk, as she has been assigned to observe the nature of a new wormhole, the very one created when they self-destructed the Protostar. Chakotay’s SOS alert was found on the other side, 52 years in the future on the planet Solum, where Gwyn is headed in present day. It’s complicated.
'Star Trek Prodigy' Season 1 Back Half Released Digitally; Physically In September
Save Prodigy, everyone. Save Prodigy. When Paramount+ abruptly abandoned Star Trek: Prodigy along with several other original series at the end of June, reversing its renewal and forcing it to be shopped to other outlets, outraged fans were unabashedly pointing out that only the first half of the series was available.
The clip itself would gladly be shown embedded somewhere below, but quite infamously, Paramount+ canceled the series (along with three other originals), removing it from the service, and Nickelodeon dropped it, leaving season 2 to finish without a home. Season 1 is available completely digitally with a physical release next month. Instead, the clip is available on the franchise’s website’s native video player. The fan rally to #SaveProdigy has been extremely powerful, according to the Hagemans, so much so that they are 99% sure that a new home for the series will be found. Sales for the Blu-ray have exceeded expectations, and they encourage to keep the momentum up. At least the availability footer has been updated. When the DVD and Blu-ray news was announced, the footer still mentioned Paramount+. While the full extent of the season 2 cast is not currently known, Brett Gray voices Dal R'El, Ella Purnell voices Gwyn, Rylee Alazraqui voices Rok-Tahk, Angus Imrie voices Zero, Jason Mantzoukas voices Jankom Pog), and Dee Bradley Baker voices Murf.
Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 is currently available in full digitally, while physically the first half of the season has until September 26 before the back half joins it on Blu-ray and DVD. And remember, #SaveProdigy.
