'Star Wars: The Bad Batch' Will Return Next Year For A Final Season
The series will end after its third season in 2024
There was some great news to be had at the panel for Star Wars: The Bad Batch at Celebration Europe. The series has been renewed for a third season at Disney+. However, it will also be the last, according to executive producers Brad Rau, Jennifer Corbett, and Athena Portillo.
Yup, it seems it’s time to wrap up the story of Clone Force 99, the titular Bad Batch. Introduced in The Clone Wars season 7, they were a group of elite clones, nicknamed Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Crosshair, and Echo, with extensive genetic modifications that caused them to be unaffected by the execution of Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith. The announcement comes about two weeks after the second season finale and less than two years after the series premiered on Star Wars Day, May 4, 2021. Season 2 ended with the death of Tech and the capture of Omega, along with the revelation that she, previously believed to be the sole female clone of Jango Fett has a sister.
The season three teaser was not publicly released, but it reportedly began with the Emperor (voiced by Ian McDiarmid, who has been voicing him in his appearances this series after Ian Abercrombie’s death and Tim Curry’s stroke during The Clone Wars), visiting Dr. Royce Hemlock, leader of the Empire’s cloning efforts, on Mount Tantiss. All members of the Bad Batch meet for Hunter to address Omega’s capture and resolve to save her. Worlds and characters are aplenty in these quick trailer scenes, including Republic commandos, more clones, a plethora of giant creatures, and familiar faces like Rex and Fennec Shand, Ming Na’s Mandalorian-originating bounty hunter.
The second season of The Bad Batch only just ended. So the next season coming next year, whether it was final or not, is rather reasonable. As for what’s being offered new on this upcoming Star Wars Day, there’s Visions Volume 2 and the series premiere of Young Jedi Adventures, which got a new trailer released on Monday as well.
