'Street Fighter' Adds Comedian Andrew Schulz As Dan Hibiki
Before we get the OFFICIAL casting of M. Bison, here’s a different guy for a different role
Oh I don’t think I’d like him very much. Legendary’s Street Fighter movie, the third live-action film try for the Capcom video game franchise, is continuing to grow its roster, and this next get is allegedly going to bring the funny. Comedian Andrew Schulz has joined, and he’s widely believed to be playing Dan Hibiki.
Who is Dan Hibiki and why does he sound not very fighty? He debuted in 1995’s Street Fighter Alpha and has since been consistently portrayed as overconfident, arrogant and utterly feeble. Schulz meanwhile is apparently considered one of today’s biggest stand-up acts. This year, he started a podcast, Flagrant Pod, which apparently ranks as one of the top comedy podcasts and was recently featured by the New York Times for the major political guests recently featured on the show. What kind of “major political guests”? On the publication’s podcast The Interview, the given description says he’s a “provocative, anti-woke” comedian who has “issues with the mainstream media“, and as a podcast host is “appointment-listening for millions”, but he gets frustrated at being branded as “some dumb bro.” Not only that, but he appears in the latest season of Shane Gillis’s Netflix sitcom Tires. His other film roles include the White Men Can’t Jump remake and Underdoggs.

Launched in 1987, Street Fighter has sold more than 49 million units worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing video game franchises of all time, with well-spread sequels over the 36 years, as well as special editions and remakes. 1991’s second installment was the first to offer choices of playable characters and fighting techniques. The games often center around a global fighting tournament organized by M. Bison, the leader of the evil organization Shadaloo. The most recent game in the franchise, Street Fighter 6 was released on June 2, 2023, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It even won fighting game of the year at that year’s Game Awards. The latter three entries in the series were released after hiatuses of 11, 8, and 7 years respectively.
Schulz joins a cast that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, WWE wrestler Roman Reigns as Akuma, Orville Peck as Vega, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Ironheart star Eric André as the ring announcer. The film directed by Kitao Sakurai currently does not have a release date but was originally scheduled for March 2026.
