'The Thundermans' Are Officially Back And 'Undercover' On Nickelodeon; Get Trailer, Premiere Date
The superhero follow-up series superspeeds to January premiere just a week after wrapping
There’s no more hiding. Just a week after filming wrapped on its 26-episode first season, Nickelodeon has released a trailer and official stills for its follow-up to its hit 2013-2018 live action superhero sitcom The Thundermans. Titled The Thundermans: Undercover, it has been set to premiere on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 PM and retaining that timeslot for the foreseeable future. International rollout will happen over the course of 2025. All three main stars, Kira Kosarin, Jack Griffo, and Maya Le Clark made the premiere date announcement Wednesday and that the trailer would be released Thursday, which it was.
The series follows Phoebe (played by Kosarin) and Max (Griffo) Thunderman as they are sent undercover to handle a new threat in the beachside town of Secret Shores. They bring Chloe (Le Clark) along to develop her superhero talent. The first episode “Thundercover” specifically sets up that Phoebe and Max are assigned a new mission in their hi-tech beach home base, where their superhero identities remain a secret. They bring Chloe along to give her a normal life…while also developing her superhero talent? Still, the trio must stop the threats of Secret Shores and the true supervillain known as the Mastermind. Chloe does go to school, which means she’s able to make two friends Booch and Jinx that are played by series regulars Kinley Cunningham and Nathan Broxton, who Kosarin calls “made of joy and light”. For the first time, it seems Dana Snyder as the voice of pet rabbit and transformed supervillain Dr. Colosso is credited as series regular, and Daran Norris, who played Z-Force Commander Dirk Trumbo in four final season episodes including the original series finale, is playing Thunderford, a new virtual assistant. Considering President Kickbutt demoted Trumbo to her assistant in that finale, maybe Thunderford was modeled after him, but it’s not made clear yet.

As far as guest stars, Kickbutt, played by Daniele Gaither, is the one to assign them this mission. The only main family member not dropping by is Addison Riecke as Nora, which means getting Chris Tallman as dad Hank, Rosa Blasi as mom Barb, and Diego Velazquez as brother Billy. Also reprising their roles are Audrey Whitby as Phoebe’s best friend Cherry, Kenny Ridwan as Max’s friend Gideon, Helen Hong as Mrs. Wong, and Jeff Meachum as Principal Bradford, all of whom were given superpowers during the events of The Thundermans Return, this year’s reunion movie whose success led to the greenlight of Undercover. iCarly and Pair of Kings’s Ryan Ochoa and Liv and Maddie’s Jessica Marie Garcia highlight guest stars playing characters this series will introduce.
The Thundermans: Undercover is executive produced by original series creator Jed Spingarn and series alums Sean W. Cunningham & Marc Dworkin. Kosarin and Griffo continue to serve as executive producers as they did for Return, with Kosarin also making her directorial debut with “Prank You, Next”. While actor-directed episodes tend to see their characters absent or largely absent from those episodes, Phoebe will have eight scenes. I asked that myself. The pilot is directed and executive produced by Trevor Kirschner, who directed The Thundermans Return. Production of the series for Nickelodeon Studios is overseen by Shauna Phelan, the Head of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action, along with Executive with Brian Banks.
Despite being announced for Nickelodeon and Paramount+, there’s no mention of any sort of specified streaming arrangement that makes the streamer look like a partner. The series does premiere just five days after Henry Danger: The Movie, giving a show the original series crossed over with when they were both running the same franchise extension that Return served in March. The 7 PM timeslot is largely because Nick at Nite is taking over the 8 PM hour. An indictment of the decline of kids watching linear? Probably, but it is where Nick at Nite started in 1985.
