Tim Miller’s Next Animated Anthology 'Secret Level' Premieres In December On Prime Video
The 'Love, Death & Robots' creator’s new series will run 15 episodes
That happened pretty fast. Just about a week after its ordering was reported, Amazon Prime Video has officially unveiled Secret Level, a new adult animated anthology series from Love, Death & Robots creator Tim Miller which premieres on the streamer on December 10. A new teaser trailer has also been released, and it all happened during the Gamescom Opening Night Live global livestream.
The series features 15 original short stories set within the worlds of various video games, both classic and modern. The games featured include Mega Man, Pac-Man, Dungeons & Dragons, Armored Core, Concord, Crossfire, Exodus, Honor of Kings, New World: Aeternum, Sifu, Spelunky, The Outer Worlds, Unreal Tournament, Warhammer 40K, and an unspecified assortment of PlayStation-born franchises. Episodic personnel like writers and directors have not been revealed, not even a morsel. The lack of Nintendo representation is not a surprise, considering they’re only gradually reopening their properties to series and movies.
The official description for the series reads “Each episode of Secret Level serves as a gateway to a new adventure, unlocking exciting worlds from beloved gaming classics and highly anticipated new titles. Prepare for an unforgettable journey, where Amazon MGM Studios and gaming’s finest unite in a first-of-its-kind event that brings together more game IP in a single series than has ever been done before.” With 14 different individual titles and franchises, it makes the PlayStation one a fifteenth, but it’s unclear even from this description if each story contains itself to one listed item or crosses between games for the individual story, whether the PlayStation games are scattered throughout or just held to the one. To say, does it fit as neatly as it seems?
“Secret Level weaves a tapestry of iconic games across multiple mediums, to tell a series of unique and captivating stories,” said Vernon Sanders, who is head of television at Amazon MGM Studios. “Created and led by Tim Miller, Blur Studio, and Supervising Director Dave Wilson, each episode will take our global Prime Video customers on a brand new journey with breathtaking animation and imaginative storytelling.” Miller and Wilson also serve as executive producers. Love, Death & Robots was renewed for a fourth season in August 2022.
