Cartoon Network Releases The Teaser For 'Tiny Toon Adventures' Reboot 'Tiny Toons Looniversity'
The series has been set for a fall release
After three years, fans finally have their first legally-released animated at Tiny Toons Looniversity, the reboot to the beloved Tiny Toon Adventures. Buster and Babs Bunny (now relation), Hampton, Plucky, Fifi, Furball and Dizzy are back to expect the unexpected. Cartoon Network has released a teaser trailer revealing a fall premiere date.
The format of the teaser comes off much like a video brochure selling the merits of Acme Looniversity. It doesn’t feature much voice acting but there’s nothing too objectionable. The Tiny Toons were positioned as the next generation of Looney Tunes in the original early ‘90s series. running for 3 seasons and nearly 100 episodes, where they were taught and mentored by the classic toons. There, the “tiny” meant something as Acme Looniversity was very much situated as an elementary or middle school. Here, it’s an actual university, and the classic toons are still faculty and alumni, including Bugs, Daffy, Taz, Foghorn Leghorn and Granny. Amusingly, that includes Lola Bunny, who was introduced in 1996’s Space Jam, after the original series had concluded.
The reboot was originally announced in October 2020, with a two season straight-to-series order for Cartoon Network and HBO Max. Being announced mere weeks before the Animaniacs revival premiered on Hulu, it was a very transparent to make an equivalent revival in that same Amblin partnership for their own young streaming service.
Information was a drip job over the next two and a half years, such as the dropping of Elmyra Duff, the recasting of most if not all of the students, or that Jeff Bergman would be returning as Bugs Bunny and thus sharing the role with Eric Bauza in capacities similar to Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse over at Disney. Concept art and casting was shared at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022. August came the content purges at HBO Max that included a lot of kid-aimed animated originals, and an indication that the streamer was getting out of kids & family originals, and the ones on the way would just become library as Cartoon Network originals. While the Max relaunch day premiere of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai quelled some of those fears, the trailer was posted to Cartoon Network’s YouTube channel with no indication of Max synergy.
As far as the breadth of the cast, Buster and Plucky’s voices have not been confirmed. Aside from Bergman and Hairston, it has been learned that Eric Bauza is Daffy Duck, Candi Milo is Granny, as she has been since June Foray’s death, Tessa Netting is Sweetie Bird, Danny Cooksey returns as Montana Max, and David Errigo Jr., the modern voice of Ferb is Hamton J. Pig, replacing the late Don Messick. Steven Spielberg returns as an executive producer, with Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios president Sam Register, and Amblin Television Co-Presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank also currently listed as executive producers. Erin Gibson will be showrunner and co-executive producer along with Adventure Time alum Nate Cash. Come and join the fun this fall.
