Tom Everett Scott Is Going To 'Elle' As Her Dad
Casting for the 'Legally Blonde' prequel series for Prime Video is getting deeper into the Woods
This is the spring that Tom Everett Scott turned pink. The That Thing You Do star has joined Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series Elle as the title character’s father, Wyatt Woods.
Originally played by James Read, Wyatt and wife Eva, played in the upcoming series by June Diane Raphael but originally by Tane McClure, had very minor roles and only served to unsuccessfully dissuade their daughter (Reese Witherspoon in the original film, Lexi Minetree here) from attending Harvard. With their daughter a teenager with less independence than a college-bound one has, the parents are series regulars. Scott is probably best known for his debut film role as Guy Patterson in That Thing You Do!, and more recently the first two seasons of the Prime Video original series The Summer I Turned Pretty, with television credits like Law & Order, Will & Grace, Sons of Anarchy, ER, Southland, Z Nation, How To Get Away With Murder, Reign, the first two seasons of MTV’s Scream series, 13 Reasons Why and The Healing Powers of Dude in between and film credits including Clouds, Sister of the Groom, and Finding You.
'Legally Blonde' Prequel Series 'Elle' Nabs Lexi Minetree With June Diane Raphael As Mom
What, like casting’s hard? Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine have cast their first two leads for Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel series that continues the franchise that began with two Witherspoon-starring films as underestimated lawyer Elle Woods. Lexi Minetree will play Woods here, while June Diane Raphael will play her mother.
Elle follows high school-era Woods, exploring the life experiences that turned her into how we already know her. Creator Laura Kittrell, whose work includes High School and Insecure, is co-showrunner and executive producer of Elle alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers. Jason Moore is directing the first two episodes and the series is produced by Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon’s company, and Amazon MGM Studios.
