'WandaVision', 'Loki', And 'The Mandalorian' Are Getting Physical Home Media Releases
Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases will all happen by Christmas
In recent months, Disney+ had come under increased scrutiny for not having any physical home media for their original series. This became especially egregious when dozens of titles were removed from both Disney+ and Hulu, many of them originals. None of the removed have resurfaced in any fashion, but three of the most successful Disney+ series are getting Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases: WandaVision, Loki, and The Mandalorian.
The first season of Loki will be the first to arrive on those formats on September 26, just a couple weeks before the premiere of the second season on October 6. WandaVision is next on November 28, not in time for any Black Friday deals but still in time for Christmas. The first two seasons of The Mandalorian will also be available for the holiday, starting on December 12, when both seasons will be released together on two separate discs.. The physical releases will come with both a Collector’s Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray disc, encased in luxe Steelbook packaging with collectible concept art cards and new original box art designed by artist Attila Szzarka
New special features are included, however Loki’s are the only ones that have been disclosed is the only title whose special features have been announced. They are “Designing the TVA” with production designer Kasra Farahani and Tom Hiddleston, which has a look at Season 2, the Miss Minutes TVA orientation video, a gag reel, and the Assembled documentary, which makes for at least part of a fourth series that isn’t a rescue. Two deleted scenes will be included: “Loki’s Coronation”, where Mobius reviews some moments from Loki’s timeline, featuring a Frog Thor appearance during said coronation, and “The Standoff”, where Loki holds Sylvie hostage against the TVA.
Notably, this comes after fans were spooked by Manta Labs putting up a disc-free steelbook they hadn’t gotten the license for yet up for pre-order in late July. It had a glossy finish and debossed title, a full slip cover, and packaged with postcards, character cards and three exclusive stickers. It did cause quite the furor, but luckily the real thing looks a bit more complex. All four titles will be up available for pre-order on August 28.
They need to do more of this for their animated series. There are a lot of past and present ones in their archives that deserve it.
