Warner Bros. Dates 'Oh, The Places You’ll Go!' As Second Seuss Film, With Move To 2028
Warner Bros. is filling up 2028 with titles faster than everyone else, apparently.
If you care to know the places you’ll go, look to the western skies. After three years and a name (and ownership) change, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has finally given an update on their second Dr. Seuss adaptation, Oh, The Places You’ll Go! based on the book of the same name that was Seuss’s last ever. Biggest of all, it now has a solid theatrical release date of March 17, 2028, with a claim to IMAX screens.
Jon M. Chu is still attached to the animated musical, but not as the director, instead a director alongside Jill Culton, who boarded last year. At the time he came on, he was coming off In The Heights, the film adaptation of the Broadway musical, and now he’s coming off another, Wicked, which is the highest grossing musical film adaptation and has 10 Oscar nominations. Its second part, Wicked: For Good is set for this November. The Oh, The Places You’ll Go! film is about a young adventurer navigating the ups and downs of life. The original book is indeed Dr. Seuss’s last published, happening in 1990, before his death a year later at the age of 87.
When the film was announced in 2021, The Cat in the Hat was set for 2024 and set to be followed by a Thing One and Thing Two movie for 2026. The latter has had no updates, but the former now has a March 6, 2026 release date, and a cast led by Bill Hader as the Cat, with Bowen Yang, Paula Pell, Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’s Xochitl Gomez, and What We Do in The Shadows and Krapopolis’s Matt Berry. It is unclear what the fate of the Thing One and Thing Two movie is, but Oh, The Places You’ll Go! originally had a 2027 release date. With it being more definitively slated before Thing One and Thing Two, then Oh, The Places You’ll Go! should be considered the second film going in WBPA and Seuss Enterprises’s pact going forward, even if its voice cast is still unrevealed. It’s not WBPA’s first film slated for 2028 either, as DC Studios’s Dynamic Duo, about the early days of Robins Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, has been given a June 30 date. The film also counts Bad Robot among its production companies. Its representing producers are J.J. Abrams and Gregg Taylor. It is also seen as a priority for the studio.
