Demetrius Grosse Has Been Cast In Disney+ 'Wonder Man' Series
The actor joins Yahya Abdul Mahteen II in the story of one of the next heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
In a world full of wonder, don’t fear the reaper. Demetrius Grosse has officially signed on with the upcoming Disney+ and Marvel Studios series Wonder Man. He will play Eric Williams, the brother of Simon Williams, who becomes Wonder Man and will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Filming on the series began in early April.
Grosse’s credits include Straight Outta Compton, 13 Hours, and Rampage, with series regular roles on Banshee, the Canadian series Frontier, and the short-lived NBC series Game of Silence and The Brave. He has also recurred on series such as ER, The Rookie, Justified, Heroes, and Fear the Walking Dead.
Simon as Wonder Man was originally introduced as a supervillain who inherits their father’s munitions company. Under his guidance, the company has trouble competing with Stark Industries, but he ultimately gets super strength and ion-based superpowers while working under Baron Zemo, and eventually becomes a founding member of the West Coast Avengers. With a Stark-less Stark Industries that has been out of the weapons manufacturing game since the start of the MCU, it remains to be seen how exactly if at all Simon will be favored over Eric. After all, no plot details about the series have been made known yet. Eric is considered the “black sheep” of the Williams family. This steered him toward villainy himself. Building up his persona, he took up a scythe that was eventually upgraded with coma-inducting powers and named himself the Grim Reaper.
Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Avengers: Kang Dynasty, and writer-producer Andrew Guest, whose credits include Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, are developing the series with Guest serving as head writer. Besides Grosse and Mateen II, the only other actor currently reported for the series is Ben Kingsley, reprising his role as the MCU’s greatest actor Trevor Slattery, who previously appeared in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi. The series has still not been formally announced, ten months after it was reported to be in development.
