'Yu-Gi-Oh!' Twitch Channel Finally Hits 'Sevens'

The journey is complete, as the 'Dark Side of Dimensions' movie also joins the lineup

It’s been quite a while since the status quo of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Twitch channel was shaken up by the addition of a series, in fact being early December when the franchise’s fifth and sixth series Arc-V and Vrains joined the lineup. Now we’re here at the end of May and the channel’s lineup has seen itself to as complete as it currently can be, adding the 20th anniversary movie Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions and the last completed series Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens early on May 24.

According to MissLuxora, this happened not after a cycle of Vrains, but of GX, the series that followed Duel Monsters (and more directly than any subsequent series). The Dark Side of Dimensions is the franchise’s 20th anniversary movie but is a follow-up to the original manga and Duel Monsters anime, six months later in the original Japanese, a year in the dub. It mainly focuses on Seto Kaiba trying to get one more duel with the Pharaoh Atem, and Yugi has to prove that Atem really has moved on to the afterlife. Releasing in 2016 in Japan and in 2017 in the States, it’s a real 10 year reunion type as Dan Green, Wayne Grayson, Amy Birnbaum, Greg Abbey, and Eric Stuart return as Yugi and Atem, Joey, Tea, Tristan and Seto Kaiba. Marc Thompson as Duke Devlin and Ted Lewis as Bakura too Even Tara Sands returns as Mokuba after having been replaced in the final season. Grayson takes over as Grandpa Solomon, as Maddie Blaustein had died years earlier. The movie was said to have made its Twitch premiere at 6 AM Eastern, according to user NPColty.

Why did I rely on viewers for that info? I awoke Sunday morning to find frames that I’d consider unfamiliar to the channel, without even seeing the title. And I found that Sevens was deep into its second and final season. So I went asking. Vashbell said the show was added Saturday while LovesickHero said it was about 4 AM Pacific/7 AM Eastern. Considering Dark Side of Dimensions has a 131 minute runtime, I’m going to call it closer to 8 AM. As for Sevens, it brought the English dub back to American linear television as the first series to air on Disney XD. It runs 89 dubbed episodes (out of 92) and is easily the shortest series in the franchise. In the futuristic town of Goha, Yuga Ohdo (voiced by Bryson Baugus) is a fifth-grader who loves both inventions and dueling. Feeling that the current rules are too limiting, he makes his own, introducing the "Rush Duel", which allows for more fast-paced and frantic dueling. Yuga and his friends as they show off the new duel style, as the Goha Corporation that oversees the city takes notice.

Sevens’s finale aired on Disney XD in December 2023, while Go Rush!! began airing this past January, while it headed toward its finale in Japan in March. It’s obviously the move into the next series that made Sevens available to stream, and it’s very welcome. It’s worth noting that Sevens has not spread beyond its Hulu and Disney+ VOD-type streaming availability. In addition, the Pokémon Twitch channel’s Tuesday and Thursday streams are playing the Sun and Moon series for what is probably the first time since Journeys ended. Which means after it, several months from now, we might see Journeys join the lineup. On Pokémon TV, the fourth season Johto League Champions has begun, continuing smoothly on singular daily uploads.
