'Zootopia 2' Teaser Trailer Cuts To The Chase As More Footage Goes Through Annecy
Sssssslither back into the groove with Nick and Judy
Walt Disney Animation Studios’s Zootopia 2 is hopping toward its November 26 release, and it’s gone on quite the high profile international journey. Starring the returning Ginnifer Goodwin as bunny cop Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman as fox cop Nick Wilde, footage was first shown at CinemaCon in Vegas in April before its teaser trailer was released in May. Now, we have even more coming out of Annecy International Animation Film Festival, so maybe it’s time to claw at it.
The CinemaCon footage sees the pair sent to partners therapy overseen by a quokka named Dr. Fuzzbee, whose other clientele of mismatched cops includes as an elephant who keeps getting spooked by the mouse, and a deer who keeps fighting with their skunk partner. It was here that Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson, who is also set to be heard in The Cat in the Hat just three months later, would be the voice of Dr. Fuzzbee. The marsh resort clip from D23 was also shown here.
Ke Huy Quan Takes the Snake As Reptiles Descend On 'Zootopia 2'
There’s some old blood and some fresh blood coming to Zootopia 2, and that fresh blood is cold. Reptiles are coming in from everywhere all at once as Ke Huy Quan has joined the cast of Disney’s upcoming sequel as Gary the viper.
The minute-long teaser trailer sees Nick, Judy, and viper Gary De’Snake (voiced by Ke Huy Quan) pursued by their colleagues of several species through all of Zootopia’s biomes: underwater, in a tundra, in the mountains, the desert, and a city nightclub where they encounter a mysterious hooded figure with glowing eyes. The teaser then closes with a montage of both familiar and new characters, including Nibbles the beaver (voiced by Fortune Feimster). It’s Gary’s mysterious arrival that turns the animal metropolis upside down. To crack the case Gary brings, Nick and Judy must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, which tests their growing partnership to greater lengths than before.
The studio's chief creative officer Jared Bush, who also directs and wrote the script, reuniting with Byron Howard on both fronts, tells “We are beyond excited to welcome everyone back to the outrageous, expansive animal metropolis of Zootopia, and take audiences on a hilarious, wild ride into parts of the city we’ve never visited before.” He continued “Whether it’s the marshes of semi-aquatic mammals, the vast desert dunes, or even greater mysteries beyond, our heroes, Judy and Nick, will meet a lot of new friends and discover even more about the world, themselves, and a brand-new snake in town.”
Howard then brought some much needed context for the opening 20 second countdown, as “The trailer features the original song ‘ZUTU’ by the lemming techno group, LEMEEENS. Fresh from touring with superstar Gazelle as her opening act, members Hans-Peter, Gūnther, Spielt, and their DJ, Spaß, created the song to mark the occasion and welcome the world back to the City of Zootopia!”
At Annecy, the new footage Bush presented confirmed the return of Maurice LaMarche’s mafia possum character Mr. Big (if he wasn’t in the quick cut anyway). “Nick and Judy are now Zootopia Police Department’s newest rookie cop partners,” Bush described. “But the question of this movie is whether these two animals, who are so different, really have what it takes to stay together in the long run. In other words, if the first movie was like their honeymoon, this movie is what moving in feels like.” He introduced buff, actor-turned-politician stallion Mayor Wind Dancer and further confirmed returning characters like Chief Bogo, Clawhauser, Mayor Bellwether, Yax, Judy’s parents and 278 brothers and sisters, Fru Fru and Flash. Shakira’s returning as Gazelle too, but that’s been known for quite a while. He also got to pander a bit to the French audience by revealing French actor Jean Reno will voice an officer of the Zootopia Police Department in a cameo role. He also announced that Ron Clements, who last directed Moana, which Zootopia preceded in the release calendar and now has a sequel in the release spot both films in that franchise held, is returning to the studio in an advisory role. “I really have been enjoying retirement,” he said, “but I’m excited about just returning to kind of mentor… There aren’t as many old people around as there used to be, and there certainly are so many young people who want to work in animation.”

'Incredibles 3' Summons 'Elemental' Director Peter Sohn To Suit Up
Back at D23 in August, Incredibles 3 was announced to be in development at Pixar Animation Studios with Brad Bird writing. But that was the extent of the information given and it didn’t feel like enough of an article. Even combining it with the Toy Story 5
The impression I get is that Gary is supposed to be fulfilling the function that Joe Pesci's Leo Getz held in the "Lethal Weapon" movies.
And that whole "partners" therapy thing can be misleading to some.
