Adult Swim Releases 'Smiling Friends' Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition Season 2 Trailer
Smile, you’re going to work for Gwimbly
The Renaissance Men are coming to town. Fresh off its highly-acclaimed puppet remake April Fool’s Day prank, and the reward of the actual season 2 premiere of Smiling Friends, Gwimbly has been the internet darling, giving them the greatest manifestation of Graggle Simpson they could ask for. The stunt ended with Adult Swim setting a May 12 premiere for the regular run. Being just 6 weeks away, it wasn’t going to be long before the marketing was cranked in the run-up. And so Tuesday, the network released the official trailer.
"Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition DX 4K (Anniversary Director's Cut)" saw Pim convincing Charlie to help Gwimbly, a down-on-his-luck retro video game icon rebound against corporate greed. The trailer does see some of that, since it wouldn’t represent the complete season without it, but includes plenty from the episodes that follow. This season will have Smiling Friends’s clientele include a supervillain and the President of the United States. Insert jokes about them being one and the same here? As the season’s synopsis puts it, “Pim, Charlie, Zongo, Allan, and Glep continue their mission to bring happiness to the world.” going on to include examples like Gwimbly and the President. Back to the trailer, set to “You Make My Dreams” by Hall & Oates, there’s an exposed rib cage, a road trip, water skiing, encounters with Bigfoot, the Abominable Snowman, and the mysterious Professor Psychosis, and the return of the beloved nuclear waste dumper Mr. Frog! Frankly, a lot of scenes that are clearly from the President episode, which is simply titled “Mr. President”, is in this trailer.
Created by and starring Zack Hadel and Michael Cusack as most of the characters including leads Pim and Charlie, the cast of Smiling Friends also includes Marc M., David Dore, Mick Lauer, Erica Lindbeck, Chris O’Neill, Hans van Harken, Rodrigo Huerta, Joshua Tomar, and Harry Partridge. “Gwimbly” will have its formal premiere followed by “Mr. President” on May 12, and they’ll both be available next day on Max, as will every episode upon their premiere. The third episode of the season, “A Allan Episode” seems raring to premiere the next week, since it’s unlikely the full season will drop on premiere night like season 1 did.
