'Agatha All Along' Teaser Readies Halloween Encore For Perfidious Witch
The 'WandaVision' spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn premieres on Disney+ on September 18
Who’s been tardy with reporting? It’s my handling all along! Monday was magical as Marvel Studios released the first trailer for Marvel Television’s Agatha All Along, the WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn. The series premieres on Disney+ with two episodes on September 18, with the remaining seven following weekly to a November 6 season finale.
The official logline reads: “The infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road.” The trailer begins like a Mare of Easttown hardboiled murder mystery with Agnes/Agatha investigating Wanda’s dead body following Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Agatha’s latest case forces her to confront the battle that resulted in her powers being stripped. Aubrey Plaza’s witch character, reportedly Rio Vadal does some of the goading to reclaim her power, since Wanda was the one to seal Agatha into Agnes for everything she did in the mother series Then all sorts of witch mayhem ensues, and Agatha reunites with some old sorceress pals to regain her power. The trailer fantastically shows off its magic and horror elements.
Agatha All Along also stars Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale, the returning Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis, who went by Mrs. Hart under the hex, and Ali Ahn (reportedly as Alice Wu-Gulliver). and Maria Dizzia. Other Westview residents including Emma Caulfield Ford as Sarah Proctor, aka "Dottie Jones" within the sitcom, David Lengel as her husband Harold Proctor / "Phil Jones", David Payton as John Collins / "Herb", Asif Ali as Abilash Tandon / "Norm", Amos Glick as the pizza delivery man who was "Dennis" under the Hex, and Kate Forbes as Agatha's mother, Evanora Harkness are all set to make return appearances.
The trailer drop came as Hahn began a week of guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she got to relish in the self-promotion, interview Locke as one of her guests, and sing a recap of the MCU to this point. Agatha All Along premieres on Disney+ with two episodes on September 18, with the remaining seven following weekly to a November 6 season finale. This means the series will be part of the streamer’s Halloween festivities with new episodes every week of October. According to Deadline, the series is the next to get primetime releases at the typical 9 PM Eastern slot. Such wasn’t afforded for X-Men ‘97 but was for the Echo drop and Loki being the first to get such from the Marvel output. Hahn won’t be the only guest host to execute ABC/Marvel synergy as Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are set to co-host Kimmel to promote Deadpool & Wolverine, which releases July 26.
