AKA Defenders Comeback: Krysten Ritter To Reprise Jessica Jones On 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2
Defenders we are strong, together fight as one!
The Defenders are starting to assemble again, and first to come back in Matt Murdock’s life is JESSICAAAAAA! That’s right, the investigation is over. Krysten Ritter is returning as Jessica Jones for season 2 of Marvel Studios’s Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to premiere next year on Disney+.
Ritter joined co-star Charlie Cox, who made the announcement on stage as part of the Marvel portion of Disney’s upfront presentation Tuesday in New York. Her arrival is basically just in time, as crime lord and mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) violently consolidated power, enacting a Safer Streets plan that included an 8 pm curfew, zero tolerance for vigilantes, and martial law declared. This led Cox’s Matt Murdock aka Daredevil to go underground and begin gathering allies to resist Fisk and his anti-vigilante task force. It was practically signaling ex-Defenders teammates, which is good to see come through. The season is also set to feature Lili Taylor as Fisk’s political opponent, as well as Matthew Lillard.
Matthew Lillard Joins 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2
Zoinks, don’t get mad! Matthew Lillard is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of the cast of the second season of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. The second season heads into production next week, overlapping as the Marvel Television series’s first season premieres its first two episodes on March 4 at 9 PM Eastern on
“It is so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and The Defenders, and now joining the MCU,” Ritter said. “I am so excited to bring back this iconic character. And without giving too much away, there’s much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season.” Jessica Jones’s three seasons ran from 2015 to 2019 on Netflix, with Jones and Murdock teaming up for the August 2017 The Defenders miniseries. In her Instagram stories, she fished for the character’s jacket in her closet captioning “There she is… 😈” and later her photo professionally taken with “Excited to be back”. Her permanent post said “Hey hey, JJ - 😈 - got dolled up for the Disney Upfronts! I can’t WAIT for Jessica Jones to get back in the MCU action with daredevil 💪🏻 🎉 LFG!”
Daredevil: Born Again has been doing rather well on Disney+, with the season finale seeing a rise in viewers. The show has also brought eyeballs the original Netflix series, which moved to Disney+ exclusively in 2022. “People were watching it as a season four, not at as a first season,” noted Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television and animation before the announcement. He also remarked on ravenous audience reactions, from the discussions to videos to fanart. “It’s given us the confidence of making the show annually into the future,” he said.
He would not answer whether the Jessica Jones supporting cast, or casts from the other two interconnected TV series, namely leads Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Finn Jones as Iron Fist, would also be integrated going forward. He “It’s about not rushing and telling the best story,” he deflected. “Yes, it’s exciting to think about characters interacting, but it’s about the reasons why. At times we’ve done that very well, at times we’ve rushed. The story has to lead the path.”
Elsewhere in the Marvel Upfronts, Wonder Man was revealed (confirmed?) to be 8 half-hour episodes, and a sizzle reel was shown, that alongside Born Again season 2 also featured the Vision series and the second seasons of X-Men ‘97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which are also set for release next year.
'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' Creator Teases Gwen Stacy For Season 2
Thanks to its release style which saw no less than 2 episodes per week, Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has completed its first season on Disney+. The finale looped everything thus far on Peter’s Spider-Man journey. Norman’s true nature has been revealed, started Lonnie Lincoln’s physical journey to becoming Tombstone, a friends…
