All 25 Canon James Bond Films Have Returned To Prime Video, Streamer Claims
October has come around again, and so has the franchise’s anniversary
The Earth has stirred back around the sun to October again. Global James Bond Day is October 5, and all 25 canon films about the famed British spy have reconvened for the occasion at Prime Video, reuniting after a monthlong stint in 2022 for the franchise’s 60th anniversary. The streamer is now touting itself as the franchise’s home. At least, so has made sense ever since Amazon bought MGM. But having all 25 films? Unfortunately that’s at most technically true at the moment.
I was still at the old gig when I broke the news for them, though this time I wasn’t as privy to knowing it was happening. Last time I knew a week in advance, as it was announced at the end of September. However it seems even the trades didn’t have any idea until the new month hit either, as all their listings were being posted well into Tuesday, October 1. In the previous occurrence, they arrived on the franchise’s actual anniversary day of October 5, the date Dr. No released in 1962. But it means I didn’t know how many films arrived to the party early (were already present on the service) and which ones they were when the others joined up. At that time it was 1995’s GoldenEye, 2012’s Skyfall, and 2021’s No Time to Die, the most recent entry. From what I could tell from the arrivals list, it seems about sixteen films joined eight that were already on the service. International extent is unclear, but hopping around official Prime Video Twitter accounts says it is also the case for Latin America.
And hey, maybe in Latin America all twenty-five films’ presence has no caveats. Because right now, Daniel Craig’s debut film Casino Royale is the only film elsewhere, on the Showtime tier of Paramount+. Which means thanks to Prime Video Channels, it technically is on Prime, but not with everything else on the regular subscription. And nobody’s looking for caveats, nor caveats to count. It is unclear how soon if at all it will expire or when the sharing starts. Heck it’s not even clear how long this Prime Video stint will last. And yeah, to reiterate, no slight scatter like there was a sprinkle of in 2022.
While the feature films are at a stall point as they figure out moving on into the post-Daniel Craig era, there’s still The Sound of 007, a documentary celebrating the film’s music which premiered with the first occasion in 2022, and the global competition series 007: Race to a Million. Hosted by Brian Cox of Succession and Pixels, it premiered last November. In a manner of the reverse, it seems Disney+ let its lease on the pre-Dial of Destiny Indiana Jones movies that they set up as Dial of Destiny was coming out expire, but they are all still on Paramount+.
