‘American Dad!' Is Officially Ending Its TBS Run And Searching For New Home
Nearly 3 years in the making, time has run out after over a decade of new episodes. Reruns will continue.
Oh boy we’re here to say, it’s on to a new day. The inevitable has happened. TVLine has confirmed that American Dad!’s run at TBS will end after 10 and a half years and 212 episodes with the upcoming season finale “What Great Advancements!” airing Monday, March 24 at 10 PM.
The series was renewed for its 18th and 19th seasons (20th and 21st depending on your source) in December 2021, just four months before WarnerMedia merged with Discovery to become Warner Bros. Discovery. Scripted programming at TBS and TNT was one of the first things halted by the new regime. So much that in November of 2022, the Wall Street Journal confirmed that Discovery executives asked TBS’s senior executives if they could get out of it early. So it became the contractually-obligated last vestige of TBS’s scripted originals era. And you know once you learn of that, the WBD executives have been itching for this day. Heck, they wrote off Close Enough, which was going to be part of a bigger animation block with it, as well as Final Space, which ran its first season on the network before becoming second-run as it moved to Adult Swim for subsequent seasons. It was truly lonesome.
'American Dad!' Sets Season 21 Premiere Date On TBS
The American Dad! constituency will be back in time for Election Day. Two months after promising a fall premiere at San Diego Comic-Con, the Seth MacFarlane-created animated series will premiere its 21st season (to be listed as 19th on Hulu) on Monday, October 28 at 10 PM on
Originally premiering on Fox in February 2005, the Seth MacFarlane-created, 20th Television Animation (previously part of the main 20th Century Fox Television/20th Television studio)-produced American Dad! lasted for 10 or 11 seasons and 175 episodes as part of Animation Domination, finishing off with three episodes in September 2014 that somehow didn’t fit into the previous season’s schedule. For those unaware, the show is about centers on super patriotic CIA agent Stan Smith and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, Virginia, his wife Francine, daughter Hayley, son Steve, persona-riddled alien Roger, German skier in a fish body Klaus, and eventually Hayley’s husband Jeff Fischer, and Roger’s homunculus of a son Rogu. The move to TBS was prepared for and began about four weeks later in October. It never left its Monday 10 PM timeslot in its entire TBS era. The most recent season aired uninterrupted since premiering October 28.
Where American Dad! will land next is unknown but the search is on. Reruns of these 388 episodes will continue to air on TBS and Adult Swim through 2030. The series stars Seth MacFarlane as Stan and Roger, Wendy Schaal as Francine, Seth’s sister Rachael as Hayley, Scott Grimes as Steve, Dee Bradley Baker as Klaus and Rogu, and Jeff Fischer as Jeff Fischer.
'Percy Jackson' Showrunners In Talks To Take On 'Power Rangers' Reboot Series For Disney+
Hasbro’s attempt to reboot Power Rangers after sunsetting its original 30-year television series a year and a half ago five years into their ownership has gained traction again, and it’s landed in a place that’s hilarious. It would also be considered unbelievable if it weren’t for the rampant media consolidation and changing media landscape. Jonathan E.…
