'Archer' Is Ending With A 14th And Final Season On FXX
The announcement comes two years after Malory Archer's own retirement
The secret agent’s got a new secret: He’s coming back in August for one final ride. The FX-turned-FXX animated comedy Archer is coming to an end after 14 seasons. Season 14 will premiere in August, just as seasons 12 and 13 have over the past couple of years, both running until October of their respective years. The series premiered in September 2009.
Two episodes will premiere on August 30 at 10 PM. It’s a Wednesday, as is typical of FXX originals. Dave is currently running its season there and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia premieres season 16 in the timeslot in June. It also streams next day on Hulu, as it has exclusively since 2018. The half-hour comedy is about Sterling Archer, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, the world’s greatest spy coming to terms with the art of his profession evolving around him. The season’s description reads “Archer and The Agency are finding their own way with Lana at the helm. Her goal is to make money while also making the world a better place, but she quickly finds out running a spy agency isn’t so cut and dry.” This is technically the first time a fourteenth season has been announced by the network, as it had only been previously mentioned to have been in production by cast member Chris Parnell, who voices reliable company-man Cyril Figgis, in January.
Archer was created by Adam Reed, co-creator of Frisky Dingo. He also voices the character Ray Gillette, described as an opportunist. The series has received 10 Emmy nominations during its run with four wins, including one for best animated series in 2016. The cast also includes Aisha Tyler as the spy with marital troubles, Lana Kane; Judy Greer as Cheryl/Carol Tunt, the office assistant in search of a special skill, Amber Nash as Pam Poovey, the enthusiastic offender, and Lucky Yates as Algernop Krieger, the “experimenter-in-chief”. Jessica Walter had starred in the first 12 seasons as Sterling’s mother Malory Archer before her 2021 death. This season introduces Natalie Dew as Zara Khan, The Agency’s new super-agent. As the series has run on eight-episode seasons since moving to FXX, the same can be expected for the final installment.
