Maggie Simpson Will Star In Her Second 'Simpsons' Short For 'Star Wars' Day
A late entrant in new 'Star Wars' material for May 4 has emerged!
For weeks, even months, we’ve known that Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures and Star Wars Visions volume 2 would be premiering on May 4 on Disney+ (and all three Disney-branded linear channels) for Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you and all that. Then suddenly, 39 hours before the special day, a surprise came in and took us all for pacifiers suckers. The streamer announced Tuesday that there would be a new The Simpsons short: Maggie Simpson In: Rogue Not Quite One.
This is not Maggie’s first starring role in Star Wars Day material, as The Force Awakens From Its Nap was released on the day in 2021. In that, Maggie goes to a Jedi preschool and is looked after all sorts of Star Wars characters before lightsaber dueling with Gerald and emerging victorious. Rogue Not Quite One, while the title is a Rogue One reference, is being reported as a The Mandalorian crossover. Homer loses track of Maggie when she hops in Grogu’s hovering pram for a galaxy-faring and hyperspace-hopping adventure. Facing a squadron of Imperial TIE fighters, Maggie brings a battle to Springfield in this epic franchise-celebrating short.
Maggie’s gone on quite a few short solo adventures in the last decade, beginning with the Academy Award-nominated The Longest Daycare in 2012, followed by Playdate with Destiny in 2020. While both of these were theatrical, the latter kickstarted the production of even more shorts under Disney for Disney+, of which The Force Awakens From Its Nap began it and Rogue Not Quite One being the latest, including the Marvel crossover The Good, The Bart and the Loki, the Disney+ Day commemorators Plusaversary and Welcome to the Club and ones guest starring Billie Eilish and Andrea Bocelli and his family.
In addition to this short, Visions and Young Jedi Adventures, the Star Wars Day celebrations venture into video games with vehicles in Rocket League, and a Fortnite crossover featuring Anakin, Padme, and Darth Maul. In addition, Disney Emoji Blitz is debuting four new emojis inspired by the franchise: Platinum Grogu, Boushh Disguise Leia, the Rancor, and Salacious B. Crumb, the latter three also commemorating Return of the Jedi’s 40th anniversary. There’s been a Grogu’s Choice Token Quest that will run all month, a Darth Vader Villain Event running exclusively today before an Age of Rebellion Item Event running May 4 to 8, after which a The Mandalorian Item Event runs May 9 to 10. The Simpsons is currently renewed through season 36, though in the wake of the Writers Guild of America strike no information has been divulged of 35’s progress.
