Ash Ketchum's World Coronation Series Win In 'Pokémon Ultimate Journeys' Comes To Netflix On June 23
Get ready for Americans to cry all over again, or for the very first time
In less than 3 weeks, Pokémon fans in the United States will finally be able to legally see Ash Ketchum become world champion when the next batch of dub episodes of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series episodes hit Netflix on June 23.
That’s right, all 15 remaining episodes of the Pokémon Journeys anime will comprise part 3 of Ultimate Journeys: The Series, including the remainder of the Masters Eight Tournament will be released that day, leaving the Aim to Be a Pokémon Master portion in its whole to be the fourth and final part, presumably coming this fall. These 15 episodes skip the 4 clip shows that aired in Japan, something that hadn’t had to be done since the Diamond and Pearl era. It stretches from "Battling as Hard as Stone!", Ash’s battle against Steven Stone to the goodbyes and hellos of "This Could be the Start of Something Big!". Ash’s victory occurs in the episode "Partners in Time!".
How Did Ash Ketchum and Pikachu’s Journey End?
The time has come for a new era of Pokémon, and it’s for the best. On Friday, Ash Ketchum’s 1,232nd and final episode as the protagonist of the Pokémon anime. The three months since saying goodbye to Goh and Chloe have come and gone, and now we must say goodbye to the new world champion. Spoilers ahead I guess.
Now, this article had been started for a bit, but at the time, the length of the part was not confirmed. I had only just noticed while browsing Netflix that their trailer for the part in the Coming Soon tab was Ash’s winning moment, Pikachu’s theme song-powered second wind and all. So I got started. These episodes originally aired from July to December 2022 in Japan, while the episodes debuted in English in Canada from December to May 2023, amusingly enough on the Cartoon Network there transformed from Teletoon. Aim to Be a Pokémon Master is about halfway done there. While these aren’t Ash’s final episodes, nor Team Rocket’s, these are the last for Goh, Chloe, and the crew at the Cerise Labs. Japan is already 9 episodes through the next series, Horizons, and I promise, a recap of the first two episodes is still being worked on.
While Netflix’s trailer was just that excerpt, the Pokémon Company’s trailer was a more edited mix of the tournament battles, not even bothering with Goh’s Project Mew culmination either.
Longtime 'Pokémon’ Voice Actor James Carter Cathcart Is Retiring Due To Cancer
The departure of Ash Ketchum from the Pokémon anime also marked the end for most if not all of his supporting cast. Fans eagerly awaited how the voice cast, especially of an English dub that had been through a complete overhaul in 2006, would be shuffled and reassigned to the new characters of Horizons. Unfortunately, word has come down that one of those actors, James Carter Cathcart, will not be along for the ride.
