'Avengers: Doomsday' Enters Production, Sharing And Chairing With An Extensive Cast Reveal
Thor and a Sam and Bucky reunion are among the returning names announced in a livestream reminiscent of the Glimwood Tangle
Well Simu my Liu! Marvel Studios has set up a cast announcement livestream across their socials for next year’s Avengers: Doomsday. Yes, the Fantastic Four of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bacharach, and Joseph Quinn were confirmed to be facing off against Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr., but it quickly became apparent that it didn’t matter. Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell have been rumored, Benedict Cumberbatch has said all sorts of things. Even this week, Elizabeth Olsen has straight up denied her involvement. But who can really say with NDAs and all of Andrew Garfield’s denials leading up to Spider-Man: No Way Home? Still, Doomsday has entered production and there were plenty of names announced.
Indeed it was Kirby, who plays Invisible Woman Sue Storm of the Fantastic Four, who of the team was first reconfirmed. She was second in the listing, after Chris Hemsworth, who is returning as Thor for the first time in a film since Love and Thunder in 2022. She was followed by Anthony Mackie returning as Sam Wilson, the current Captain America, fresh off Brave New World. After him, a reunion with Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier or White Wolf, was confirmed, with Barnes’s most recent confirmed appearance being Thunderbolts*, which opens in May. Next was Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, who took up the Black Panther mantle from her brother T’Challa, who Chadwick Boseman last played in Avengers: Endgame in terms of films before his August 2020 death, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever after bringing back the necessary heart-shaped herbs. Paul Rudd was given an appropriately tiny chair for his return announcement as Ant-Man Scott Lang. Wyatt Russell, who debuted as John Walker aka U.S. Agent in Falcon and the Winter Soldier before being teamed with Bucky in Thunderbolts* was a surprise inclusion to many, as was Tenoch Huerta MejÃa, who was introduced as Namor in Wakanda Forever. Moss-Bacharach, who plays Ben Grimm aka Fantastic Four member The Thing was confirmed next, disappointing, but followed up by one of the most satisfying confirmations: Simu Liu was finally returning to live action as Shang-Chi for the first time since his debut in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Next 'Spider-Man' Movie Gets Destin Daniel Cretton To Direct, 2026 Release Date
Just as Venom completed their trilogy, Sony and Tom Holland are ready to start his second as Spider-Man. The fourth Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has its script, its director in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’s Destin Daniel Cretton
Further building hype for why the asterisk in Thunderbolts* exists, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova was confirmed next. The first big surprise was Kelsey Grammer, the legendary Frasier Crane who played Beast in the Fox X-Men movies, reprising at least a variant of the role after playing one in a post-credits scene of The Marvels. It’s also the first X-Men crumbs in the listing thus far. He was followed by Lewis Pullman, also from Thunderbolts* as Bob aka Sentry. Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Sam Wilson’s successor as Falcon, flew in next. David Harbour, the Red Guardian Alexei Shostakov and Winston Duke as M’Baku followed, before getting the Starr of the event, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr, aka Ghost, introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp before becoming a Thunderbolt*. But then, the new overseer of the multiverse, Loki himself Tom Hiddleston exerted his glorious presence and everyone went wild. Get ready for possible brotherly reunions.
He was followed by who X-actly nobody suspected, Sir Patrick Stewart himself, though what Charles Xavier variant in the multiverse he’ll be awaits to be seen. He has been taken off standby. Of course, what would he be without his friend-turned-rival, Magneto, played once again by Ian McKellen. And that was followed by more reprising Children of the Atom, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Scott Summers aka Cyclops. The truly newest addition of what has released thus far is Channing Tatum finally making a name for himself as Gambit with Deadpool & Wolverine pulling his casting out of the trash heap after a decade. And now he’s back. After, the reconfirmation of Pascal as Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards finally completed the Fantastic Four and then the whole thing finished off with RDJ appearing to take his seat.
No Spider-Man, no Strange, no Guardians, no Hawkeyes or Hulks, No Wolverine. But maybe that’s being saved for July. After all, with only 5 of 27 announced names, 4 out of 22 new being women, it’s a ratio that definitely needs to be fixed. Avengers: Doomsday releases May 1, 2026, and will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Watch five and a half hours be condensed into 102 seconds below.
