Carrie Fisher To Receive Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame
The ceremony for the late actress, who died in 2016, will take place on Star Wars Day, May 4
It was announced on Tuesday that late actress and writer Carrie Fisher will be posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The ceremony is set to take place on May 4, Star Wars Day, at 11:30 AM Pacific Time with her daughter Billie Lourd accepting on her behalf. Fisher of course is best known for playing Princess and later General Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, She died in December 2016 following a heart attack during a transatlantic flight at the age of 60. Her posthumous participation in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker was achieved through unused footage from The Force Awakens. Lourd had joined her mother in the franchise with the latter film as Lieutenant Connix.
Fisher’s star will be the 2,754th administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and be located at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard near the El Capitan Theatre. Apparently the news of Fisher’s star was first announced in 2021 for the 2022 slate, but I cannot find anything as to what caused the delay. Her co-stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford already have their own stars. The daughter of Debbie Reynolds (who died the day after Carrie) and Eddie Fisher, Star Wars made Carrie a star in her own right, and would go onto appear in The Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally, The Burbs, Loverboy, and Hannah and Her Sisters, with notable cameos in Hook, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Scream 3.
As a writer, she penned the bestseller Postcards from the Edge, later writing the screenplay for its film adaptation, starring Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep, which would net Oscar nominations. She subsequently wrote three novels and two memoirs: Delusions of Grandma, Surrender the Pink, The Best Awful, Shockaholic, and Wishful Drinking. Fisher brought a one-woman stage version of Wishful Drinking to Broadway, eventually filmed for HBO and nominated for an Emmy. Her other television credits include guest stints on Laverne and Shirley, Sex and the City, 30 Rock, and 25 episodes of Family Guy as Peter’s boss Angela at the Pawtucket Brewery from season 4’s “Jungle Love” until season 16’s “Three Directors”.
