Charlie Condou Is Unforgotten New Season 'Doctor Who' Guest Star
The episode is being called 'big and bold' but goes unspecified
Even after releasing the episode titles and a second trailer (more on that soon), Doctor Who still isn’t done revealing guest stars for the upcoming new season, which premieres April 12 on BBC, iPlayer, and Disney+. Charlie Condou is the latest, another that’s sure to have those in the show’s various dedicated Facebook groups asking “Who?” as if they knew every actor going into every episode or film they’ve ever watched.
Condou’s previous television credits has starred in multiple prominent dramas including The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Midsomer Murders, Unforgotten, Holby City, and Coronation Street. He’s even been part of the British theater scene, in tour casts for The Rocky Horror Show and Arthur Miller's The Crucible. In addition he’s already a Doctor Who veteran, having played Chris in the Eighth Doctor audio drama from Big Finish Five Hundred Ways to Leave Your Lover from the Classic Doctors, New Monsters series and Faithful Friends anthology, and multiple roles in The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Ravenous stories World of Damnation and Sweet Salvation.
It’s A Lucky Day To Dip In The Well Of New 'Doctor Who' Episode Titles
We are mere weeks away from the April 12 premiere of Doctor Who’s second season on Disney+ and with Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, or of its third era on the BBC. Another episode title reveal video to match last year’s was highly anticipated, except it couldn’t piggyback off of being an Easter treat because Easter is April 20 this year, the Sunday after the…
While Condou is as said a veteran of the franchise’s Big Finish audio dramas, it’s certainly a different experience doing the television series, reflected in his statement “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Whoniverse, having been a fan for so long, and finally getting a chance to work with the legend that is Russell T Davies! It’s an honour to be part of such an iconic show and I can’t wait for everyone to see what I think is one of the most exciting and unforgettable episodes so far!"
Davies himself said “Welcome on board, Charlie. Some episodes of Doctor Who are so big and bold, they need all the talent we can throw at them, and that’s when you call for Charlie Condou! It’s a delight to work with him at last, and I can't wait for people to see the wildness of this story.”
What episode Condou is appearing in is unconfirmed at least by text, but is believed to be the sixth “Interstellar Song Contest”, written by Juno Dawson, directed by Ben A. Williams and airing the day of the Eurovision Grand Final. The episode features the 803rd edition of Interstellar Song Contest in the Harmony Arena space station, hosted by Rylan as himself, and a feline alien named Sabine played by Julie Dray. Other guest stars include the returning Anita Dobson putting in another appearance as Mrs. Flood, Kadiff Kirwan looking like a talent handler, and Freddie Fox as the episode’s horned alien villain.
The new season sees a mysterious force get in the way of the Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, bringing Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu home after being abducted by robots in the premiere “The Robot Revolution”, so instead they face great dangers, ferocious enemies and wilder terrors than ever before. It will feature appearances by last season’s companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, while Michelle Greenidge returns as her adoptive mother Carla Sunday, and Angela Wynter as grandmother Cherry Sunday. This season’s other new guest stars include Belinda Owusu, Evelyn Miller and Max Parker in said premiere, Alan Cumming as Mr. Ring-a-Ding, as well as Lewis Cornay in “Lux”, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Christopher Chung as Cassio, Caoilfhionn Dunne and Bethany Antonia in “The Well”, Jonah Hauer-King as Ruby’s podcaster boyfriend Conrad Clark, the UNIT unit of Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Alexander Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim, Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, as well as Blake Patrick Anderson, Madison Stock, Kareem Alexander and Benjamin Chivers in “Lucky Day”, Adrian Pang in “The Story and the Engine”, and the fuller UNIT unit in the two part finale to include Bonnie Langford’s Mel Bush, Yasmin Finney’s Rose Noble, and likely Susan Twist as Susan Triad. Archie Panjabi is a villain somewhere in there.
Doctor Who’s new season premieres Friday April 12, with an 8 AM iPlayer posting that amounts to a 3 AM Eastern / Midnight Pacific on Disney+ stateside.
