Comedy Central Sets 'Everybody Still Hates Chris' Premiere Date
In just 4 weeks, the Bed-Stuy Circus returns fully animated.
Comedy Central has slapped its animated Everybody Hates Chris revival, Everybody Still Hates Chris onto its schedule, and it’s coming up fast. The network has set its premiere date for Wednesday, September 25 at 10 PM.
A first look at the series was also given, and it’s the image being used here as the thumbnail. With the returns of Digman! and South Park with their new seasons nowhere to be found, Everybody Still Hates Chris’s series premiere is set to be the first scripted series to premiere a wholly new episode on the channel all year. As previously reported, Chris Rock returns to narrate the stories inspired by his experiences growing up a bit nerdy in a large working-class family in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, during the late 1980s. Terry Crews is back to reprise his role Chris’s father Julius, a gentle giant with a relentless work ethic and tightwad approach as he works two jobs with a third for his days off, taking the lessons from his poorer upbringing. And so is Tichina Arnold as Rochelle, Chris’s smart, strong-willed, no-nonsense and protectively hot-headed mother.
It seems to maintain its premise the show is something of a reboot, resetting ages with there being no mention of continuation. It’s certainly clearer on that front than The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. This means, and probably would have no matter when the series picked up with this premise, that all the kids have, as also previously reported. been recast. We have Tim Johnson Jr. as Young Chris, a nerd who yearns to be cool while outshined by his “golden child” younger brother, tortured by his little sister, and foiled by his dad’s frugality; Ozioma Akagha voices Tonya, Chris’ feisty and torturous baby sister. She has the “face of an angel and the heart of a demon”, who gets along with Drew, voiced by Terrence Little Gardenhigh, but leaps at any chance to get Chris in trouble. Drew is considered is the epitome of Black Excellence: the handsome, athletic Casanova; and Gunnar Sizemore as Greg, Chris’s girl-obsessed, status conscious, and only school friend.
Everybody Hates Chris originally ran from 2005-2009, with its first season on UPN before becoming an easy choice to survive the merger that formed The CW where it spent its latter three seasons. The series won a NAACP Image Award and was a Golden Globe and several-time Emmy nominee. Everybody Still Hates Chris counts Sanjay Shah as its showrunner produced by CBS Studios’ animation arm, CBS’ Eye Animation Productions. Rock executive produces through Chris Rock Enterprises, doing so with Shah, Ali LeRoi, and Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment will executive produce. The series uses Titmouse as its animation studio, with its representing executive producers being Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina.
