Dafne Keen’s 'Star Wars: The Acolyte' Character Revealed
Before Hugh Jackman dives back into Wolverine, Dafne Keen will play a Padawan in the Disney+ series premiering June 4
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dafne Keen has revealed her character on the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte, before the series premieres on Disney+ on June 4.
The actress is playing the half-human, half-Theelin named Jecki Lon. She is the incumbent Jedi Padawan to Lee Jung-jae’s Jedi Master Sol, and will seemingly be by his side facing off against the mysterious assassin, Amandla Stenberg’s Mae. Lon is described in a manner that “Although she is young, she projects calm and conducts herself with maturity.” Keen’s work as Laura in Logan was the driving force behind her casting in the series, as series creator Leslye Headland “just wanted to see X23 with a lightsaber in their hand.” Keen describes Lon’s dedication to Sol as rather extreme, saying she’s “definitely in awe of him in a very kind of sweet way. She thinks the absolute world of him in a way that I think they have a very sweet relationship, but she's much more aware of the authority difference.” She's very much like, “No, he's the master and I'm the Padawan and he's perfect. And everything he says, I have to follow to the T.” She would also be described as methodical, a perfectionist and a high achiever.
The makeup process is an hour and a half to two hours in the morning, with a 3:30 AM pickup. It includes a bald cap from the eyebrows up and would covers the hair. A piece of prosthetic goes over the eyebrows and her head to cover a bald surface, followed by a white airbrushing, with freckles and horns. Her wig, nails and hands were painted, basically any revealed parts were airbrushed, but Keen loved the process. Headland provided her a baseline for the character and offered plenty of freedom. However, she would still run a lot by Headland in a form of mutual trust.
In addition to Keen, Stenberg, and Jung-jae, the June 4-premiering Disney+ series also stars Carrie-Anne Moss as Jedi Master Indara, Manny Jacinto as former smuggler Qimir who now lives a more comfortable life, Charlie Barnett as by-the book Jedi Knight and temple guardian Yord Fandar, Jodie Turner-Smith as Force witch coven leader Mother Aniseya, Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh, and Joonas Suotamo as Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca, as well as Dean-Charles Chapman in a still undisclosed role.
