'The Acolyte' Confirms Premiere Date With Imminent Trailer Arrival
The High Republic era-set series stars Amandla Stenberg premieres this summer
It was about a month ago when it was reported that Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte would have a summer release window. Now, Lucasfilm has announced a specific premiere date for the series, releasing a trailer tomorrow leading up to its June 4 premiere.
The series’s new logline reads as such: “an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….” In addition to Stenberg and Jung-jae, The Acolyte also stars The Good Place and Hailey’s On It!’s Manny Jacinto, Jessica Jones and The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss, Logan’s Dafne Keen, Russian Doll’s Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Tron: Ares’s Jodie Turner-Smith.
When the trailer releases tomorrow, we’ll at least have a better idea of character identities and descriptions. Beyond the leads, only Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh, a fan favorite and one of the more prominent characters in Phase I and III of the books, and modern Chewbacca Joonas Suotamo as a Wookiee Jedi named Kelnacca have been revealed to this point. This marks the first time the High Republic era, the prime of the Jedi Order has been shown onscreen, as trouble begins to bubble. For The Acolyte, it’s at a point 50 years before The Phantom Menace.
The poster released depicts a lightsaber hilt at the end of a trail of blood giving the image of unsheathedness. The Acolyte is created by Leslye Headland, whose previous work includes Russian Doll. Also serving as showrunner, she is an executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are co-executive producers, while Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Rob Bredow, and Eileen Shim are producers.
