'Descendants: Wicked Wonderland' Announces Title, Adult Cast With Returning Brandy, Rita Ora
The world is feeling a bit more wicked these days, but when you meddle with time, it can only ring truer
The Brandy Cinderella resurgence has continued. Three weeks after beginning production, the fifth Descendants film, the second centered on Red and Chloe, respectively played by Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker, characters who are the daughters of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella, has found its title: Descendants: Wicked Wonderland. It will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ in 2026 as a Disney Channel Original Movie. The latest casting news? It’s serving mother on this Mother’s Day.
And indeed, having already announced much of the kid cast, it was time for the adults to be confirmed. The round is led by Brandy reprising her role as Cinderella for the second time after The Rise of Red brought her back to the role after 27 years, and Rita Ora, who reprises her role as the Queen of Hearts. But don’t worry, there’s not going to be any conspicuous absence of King Charming as Paolo Montalban also returns. Melanie Paxson gains or continues the distinction of being the only actor to be in all 5 films, continuing to play the Fairy Godmother. This definitely feels like a first round of adult casting that doesn’t quite touch the consequences the film will explore.
'Descendants 5' Begins Production With A New Smeegion Of Hoodlums
The future of Disney Channel Original Movies seems murky. Not quality-wise but it’s April and only Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires has been announced for this year. As for the future, Disney+’s original movies are sparser than ever, let alone the DCOMs they share custody of but everyone could see how foolish it would be to not ride the second wind of th…
As previously announced, Wicked Wonderland features Leonardo Nam returning as Mad Hatter’s son, Maddox Hatter, with his own newly-introduced son Max played by Brendon Tremblay. Other new descendants include Red’s sister Pink, played by actor-singer Liamani Segura, and Captain Hook’s daughter Hazel played by Kiara Romero. There’s also Alexandro Byrd as Luisa Madrigal’s son Luis, Joel Oulette as Robin Hood’s son Robbie, Zavien Garrett as Dr. Facilier’s son Felix, and Ryan McEwen and Dayton Paradis as Mr. Smee’s twin sons Squirmy and Squeaky. The logline tells what “happily ever after” actually means for Red and Chloe, and the consequences of their return from their time-traveling adventures, as heeded by the warning at the end of The Rise of Red “There are consequences when you alter the fabric of time.”
Kimmy Gatewood is directing from a script by co-executive producer Tamara Chestna and Dan Frey and Ru Sommer, the latter pair returning from the previous film. Returning to the franchise are executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh. Gatewood also serves as co-producer. This fifth installment welcomes Emilio Dosal as its new choreographer. Descendants: Wicked Wonderland will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ in 2026 as a Disney Channel Original Movie.
