'Descendants 5' Begins Production With A New Smeegion Of Hoodlums
Gabby Duran is now sitting in an unendable franchise
The future of Disney Channel Original Movies seems murky. Not quality-wise but it’s April and only Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires has been announced for this year. As for the future, Disney+’s original movies are sparser than ever, let alone the DCOMs they share custody of but everyone could see how foolish it would be to not ride the second wind of the Descendants franchise created by the success of last year’s The Rise of Red, when it was the most watched original movie across all streaming among Kids 6-11 and Girls 6-11. So of course they’re going to, as production is underway on the fifth film, which does not yet have a title.
The new film will explore what “happily ever after” actually means for Red and Chloe, the daughters of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella, respectively, played by Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker, and the consequences of their return from their time-traveling adventures, as heeded by the warning at the end of the film “There are consequences when you alter the fabric of time.” The modern Wonderland-set story also sees the return of Leonardo Nam returns as Mad Hatter’s son, Maddox Hatter, with his own newly-introduced son Max played by Brendon Tremblay. Other new descendants include Red’s sister Pink, played by actor-singer Liamani Segura, and Captain Hook’s daughter Hazel played by Kiara Romero. Strangely, we’re also somehow incorporating Encanto into this world as Alexandro Byrd is playing Luisa Madrigal’s son Luis when this is supposed to be about the kids of the fairy tale characters. But whatever. The film then added four more: Joel Oulette as Robin Hood’s son Robbie, Zavien Garrett as Dr. Facilier’s son Felix, and Ryan McEwen and Dayton Paradis as Mr. Smee’s twin sons Squirmy and Squeaky.
'Descendants: The Rise Of Red' Stocks Up On Trailers, Premiere Dates, And Brandy
The original Villains’ Kids might have moved on, well most of them, but there's still magic in the air to keep going. Disney has set a Disney+-first July 12 premiere for Descendants: The Rise of Red, the fourth installment of the DCOM franchise that tripled up on playing with the heroes and villains of the Disney animated canon and their kids. Unlike wi…
Kimmy Gatewood is directing from a script by co-executive producer Tamara Chestna and Dan Frey and Ru Sommer, the latter pair returning from the previous film. Returning to the franchise are executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh. Gatewood also serves as co-producer. This fifth installment welcomes Emilio Dosal, who comes from Sneakerella like Chestna, as its new choreographer.
“The love for the Descendants franchise runs deep, and the incredible response to Descendants: The Rise of Red last year proved just how much fans are invested in these characters and their stories,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “Our next movie will build on that legacy and deliver even more of the magic, music and heart that make Descendants so special — brought to life by an amazing cast and creative team who continue to elevate this world in new and exciting ways.”
Prime Video’s 'Elle' Surrounds Woods With Three More As Production Begins
It’s another perfect day to cast, or at least reveal casting for Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, starring Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods, which began production last week. The series has cast Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, and Logan Shroyer as three more peers for the title character.
