Prime Video’s 'Elle' Surrounds Woods With Three More As Production Begins
It’s time to give the future lawyer an early crush
It’s another perfect day to cast, or at least reveal casting for Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, starring Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods, which began production last week. The series has cast Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, and Logan Shroyer as three more peers for the title character.
Looker has been cast in a series regular role as Dustin, Elle’s classmate and sparring partner who fights for social justice and challenges authority without fear. Belkin and Shroyer meanwhile are recurrers, as Elle’s best friend, Madison, and Shroyer recurs as her cousin Josh, who serves as Elle’s crush of a romantic interest. A bit weird that their personalities aren’t described like Dustin’s is. Maybe a case of series regular privilege. Elle follows high school-era Woods, exploring the life experiences that turned her into how we already know her. The cast now features seven known series regulars, with June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as her parents Eva and Wyatt, Chandler Kinney as upperclassman Kimberly, Gabrielle Policano as Elle’s opposite Liz, and Jacob Moskovitz as star athlete Miles who himself is crushing on Elle. Potential love triangle?
'Elle' Peers Into School Life, Casting Trio Including Chandler Kinney As Classmates
As we go on, we remember all the times prequels introduced new characters. Elle, Prime Video’s prequel series to Legally Blonde which follows Elle Woods’s formative high school experiences, has added three more series regulars that help to populate that very high school: Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano, and Jacob Moskovitz.
Looker is British and trained with the National Youth Theatre in London. He recurred as Toby on the Netflix series Geek Girl. Belkin is best known for recurring as Wren in American Horror Story: Hotel, the fifth season of the FX anthology series, with appearances on Pretty Little Liars and The Orville. On film, she stars in Last Straw, which had a limited release in September, and Singing in My Sleep. Coming up she can be seen in The Upside of Unrequited and the Starz series The Hunting Wives. Shroyer starred for six seasons as young Kevin Pearson on NBC’s This Is Us, and took on the role of John Boy in the The Waltons: Homecoming TV movie on The CW. Recognition first came for Shroyer on Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street. His previous TV credits also include Speechless and The Tomorrow People.
Original star Reese Witherspoon, who originated Elle Woods and executive produces on the series, marked the production’s commencement on Instagram on Tuesday, captioning a first-look image “Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production! Couldn't be more excited to introduce you all to leximinetree as Elle Woods.” The image serves as the thumbnail, where Minetree’s Elle lays on her pink bed using a corded landline. I chose it over picking something with any of the three new actors because it was most relevant, and is neutral over picking something featuring Looker, Belkin, or Shroyer.
Creator Laura Kittrell, whose work includes High School and Insecure, is co-showrunner and executive producer of Elle alongside Caroline Dries. Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers. Jason Moore is directing the first two episodes and the series is produced by Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon’s company, and Amazon MGM Studios.
Chris Coy Brings Lawlessness And Mystery As Latest 'Lanterns' Casting
The cast of HBO and DC Studios’s Lanterns is still being illuminated even after the Gardner came. In the hours leading up to Warner Bros.’s ultimately disappointing CinemaCon panel, its prestige IP TV is still getting headlines. This time it’s Chris Coy joining the Green Lantern-based series as a guest star.
